“Legacy is a funny thing. I got into wrestling when I was 15. I was a referee. Goals change. Time flies. I’ve had so much fun. I didn’t know what was gonna happen. I met Matt, Nick, and Kenny. Three years ago people were laughing at us when we said we were going to be a revolution. And now it’s like commonplace that this is destination viewing. This isn’t an alternative. We’re competition.
“We set this table. And now maybe some new people can eat. For three years my face has been on everything. I’ve gotten to carry the banner. Maybe some outside interests came in. Maybe there was some infighting with the EVPs, but I want those guys to know I love them.
“There is no better place than here and now, and I say this with zero bitterness in my heart: You have made my life incredibly special.”
Cody got down to remove his boots in the center of the ring, in what Jim Ross described as a time-honored tradition.
