Recently, the Alternative Wrestling Magazine spoke with former TNA World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy. Topics discussed during the interview include Hardy’s OMEGA promotion, his brother Matt Hardy, his re-signing with iMPACT Wrestling, and so much more! You can read highlights of the interview below, but we encourage you to read the entire thing by clicking here. Enjoy!
OMEGA is one of the most talked about promotions to never really get any mainstream exposure from a national weekly television deal. What was that experience like?
It was and is a great part of mine and Matt’s history. It was so fun in the OMEGA days especially being Willow The Wisp, I never had to worry about making sense and I was in my own little world. For Matt, well he pretty much ran the place. I think he is currently working on a documentary about OMEGA, highlighting the people who succeed from the promotion. It was a really special time for me.
Continuing on with OMEGA, despite being pretty unknown promotion some familiar names went on to have great success. What can be learnt from OMEGA to help out younger stars today?
Pretty much you recognise talent and you can mould it to a certain extent. What it really comes down to is being naturally talented and we were all lucky enough to be naturally talented. From time to time, you will see a guy or a young talent on Gut Check or whether else he maybe. You just step back and think these guys need to be moulded a little bit. I am at the point in my career where I just compliment. If someone is doing something right I will just say keep doing what your doing.
Is there anyone from the OMEGA days that you were surprised never made it big?
Joey Abs, was so good in those days and he was in WWE for a bit. Jason was a good friend of ours and when I speak of natural talent, he had it. I wish he could have prevailed.
Do you think we will see Matt Hardy back in TNA? And do you think we could ever see Hardy vs. Hardy for the title belt at a Bound for Glory?
That would be cool. That would definitely be cool. That will be completely up to TNA and Matt, I’m just doing my own thing.
You recently missed the UK tour. What was it like for you to miss the tour? And what did you do on your time off?
I was really disappointed to miss out. [in reference to his time off] Very, very rough my dad is going through a lot of health issues so very rough.
The relationship between TNA and UK is classed as being special. What is your relationship like with the UK fans?
When I turned on Spike to watch the shows from the UK. It was kind of hard to watch, you know? It is something that I would have loved to been a part of. But to just see the support and those packed houses, man. The love they have for TNA means the world to me because they believe in TNA like I do and that is so cool to me.
Recently, it was announced you re-signed for TNA wrestling. Were you aware of the changes, in terms of going on the road more for IMPACT tapings before re-signing and is it something that factored into your decision?
Being in TNA, there are those times where I get to be at home for a week straight. But March is crazy busy for me. I just like being the alternative, the other place to be and believe in. And 15 years from now, there’s a chance it could reach those WWE heights. Time will tell.
Was there any point throughout or before the contract negotiations where you didn’t think you would re-sign?
I found myself bored at one point. I was wondering what the right thing to do was. Overall with a daughter now and really loving the creative process of doing my own music with TNA helping me with that, which is the most important thing for me and the love. Also learning from Dale Oliver, getting a chance to be in the studio, and all of that would really be the biggest reason in me staying.
