Hey everyone – what did you think about tonight’s TNA Destination X pay-per-view?
First and foremost, how great is it that Jesse Sorensen is up and moving around? Thank God this guy’s recovery has gone in the right direction and it appears that he’s going to have a full, thorough recovery sooner rather than later. What a relief that is and should be for wrestlers and wrestling fans everywhere. Here’s hoping for a continued speedy and full recovery for Jesse!
And a big congratulations go out to Austin Aries for doing what many thought was the impossible! And no, I’m not talking about making sure that I didn’t get completely shut out of this month’s staff predictions (boy, I’ve gotten pretty bad at those predictions). Aries did the impossible and unseated the longest reigning TNA World Heavyweight Champion in the history of the company. Here’s hoping for an excellent championship run for The Greatest Man That Ever Lived!
I think that Zema Ion is an interesting choice to win the TNA X-Division Championship and it somewhat confirms something that I’ve been suspecting since Vince Russo was let go from the company. Since Russo was let go, the majority of the expected match outcomes on the pay-per-views have gone in a completely different direction. Who expected Zema Ion to win the championship going into tonight? Not many people at all. Sure, there was a contingent (myself included) who expected Kenny King to win and there was a group who thought that Sonjay Dutt would take the strap and start an Austin Aries-like rise to the top of the company… but Zema Ion? No one was pulling for him.
On the one hand, it’s nice to see someone new given a chance in the X-Division. On the other hand, though, I wonder where this is going. Will Ion go on a long-term run with the championship like the belt’s former holder? Or is he a transitional champion? My suggestion is that if he loses the title at or before Hardcore Justice, then the writers just weren’t sure where to go with the X-Division after Aries’ domination and they gave Zema Ion the title as a placeholder. Here’s hoping that – much like the Bobby Roode vs. James Storm and Daniels vs. AJ Styles storylines – there is a long-term plan in place for the X-Division and its new champion Zema Ion.
The rest of the card looked good. I would have liked to see the Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle match and the AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels match, but I’ll get my chance when the pay-per-view is made available to TNAonDEMAND.com subscribers in ten months. What about you? Did you watch the show? If so, did you watch the show online or did you watch it on pay-per-view? Better yet – were you there live?
