TNA President Dixie Carter recently spoke with the Miami Herald about their Indian promotion Ring Ka King, it’s concept and expanding that concept, “India is a different concept. It is trying to build Indian wrestlers and build a brand new property in a market that is growing so fast and does have a tremendous wrestling following.
We provide the wrestling expertise, brought a lot of people over there,” Carter said. “In the past, they had a show in India that featured wrestling, but they didn’t have their own home-grown stars. So the concept is to create Indian stars mixed with our talent and outside talent.
It’s going good. We’re on a network that the time slot is probably not best for wrestling, and we’ve had a lot of serious competition. So we knew it was going to be tough going in, but it’s been very well received, and I think there’s a very strong opportunity for Ring Ka King to continue to be seen in India.
(Taking that concept to other countries) being discussed. There are several places around the globe that we’re looking at right now. We may even take it into markets where ‘Impact Wrestling’ is not currently seen.”

Seems like she’s underselling it a bit. If I’m not mistaken the first episode of Ring Ka King shattered worldwide records. Isn’t Ring Ka King, or at least that episode, technically the most watched wrestling show in the world? Has it languished since then?
I’ve seen a few of these episodes and it’s pretty entertaining. It’s kind of a throwback to the ’90s in terms of the kinds of stories they’re telling and the format of the show, and even several of the characters I saw. Some of the home grown talent don’t really stack up to the ones TNA sent over to help them out, but there’s potential, and some are quite good.
