Hey everyone – what did you think about tonight’s Genesis pay-per-view?
For my part, I think I was most surprised by the Kurt Angle victory. That one doesn’t seem to make much sense in the whole scope of iMPACT Wrestling’s storyline progression, but then again this is the same Kurt Angle that defeated Bobby Roode at Bound for Glory 2011 – which made equally no sense. I’m glad to see that the X-Division title didn’t change hands tonight because when Austin Aries loses the title, I think he should lose it while he’s in a full blown feud. Same thoughts on the TNA World Tag Team Championships – I’d rather the Matt Morgan/Crimson pairing stick around for a little while before losing the titles. I was a little upset that my man Robbie E. wasn’t on the card tonight (and hasn’t been featured on iMPACT Wrestling for the last few weeks – what gives?!).
As for the main event, I guess I get the whole thing with Jeff Hardy winning the main event by disqualification, but I’ve always believed that you can’t end a pay-per-view with a disqualification. It’s almost like a promotion is promising a resolution to a storyline and then chooses to kick the can down the road (to use a well-overused phrase from politics these days). However, I’m also a big believer in the fact that the first television show after the pay-per-view is equally as important – if not more important – than the show itself. So I guess we’ll see which direction iMPACT Wrestling takes this thing – should be interesting!
I’m particularly interested in the opinions of anyone who actually saw the show either live on TNAonDEMAND.com, on pay-per-view in your home or at a friend’s house, or live in person. How did you watch the show? What made you want to watch this month’s pay-per-view? What should the people who didn’t see the show know more than anything else? What was the feel of the crowd? How did the show come off to you as a fan?

I thought it was a great show with an unsatisfying ending.
The Bull Ray/Abyss match stands out as being (surprisingly) more brutal and entertaining than I at first imagined.
I’m in the same boat about Angle and Storm. Angle shouldn’t have the last word in this feud, and he shouldn’t have won. Angle has said that his job now is to make sure that guys like Roode and Storm are ready to replace him after he’s gone–that doesn’t happen if Angle establishes, even by cheating, that he’s the better man.
And Roode–I think it was funny and creative and true to his character to keep the title the way he did, but on the main event of a ppv? It feels like something you should do more on Thursday night. It’s also, of course, a page right out of Randy Orton’s book, when he slapped a referee in the face. But hey, wrestling tends to repeat itself.
The X-Division match was great, of course. It’s always great.
Even Devon and the Pope had so much more substance and life to it than I expected. Devon still knows how to pump up a crowd. I actually thought Devon’s sons had more of a future sticking with Pope for a while longer as his congregation lackeys “Double Trouble”, but the way they handled it was great.
Madison Rayne above the ring in a cage was, dare I say it, old news. It’s a really really really old ploy, and so is the red herring of a foreign object discovered by the referee, only to have a second one thrown down and used. Again, I know there are no new ideas here, but I feel like I saw that match, that exact match, before. It was still good though–the Knockouts deliver as much as the X Division does.
Also, I’ve been saying this, others have been saying this, but Immortal needs to officially die. Officially. Someone needs to say, on camera, that Immortal is disbanded. Sting needs to say it, order it, or Bischoff needs to admit it. Everyone in Immortal needs to move on. I don’t like that it’s been a silent death–it should have ended the night after Bound for Glory. I also don’t like that Fortune died a similar, silent death. That’s just not making the most of stables.
Speaking of which: my 2012 Impact Wrestling dream that won’t happen is a new stable managed by Ric Flair. I know there was a Fortune, but I say what we need is an updated version of the Heenan Family–the Flair Family. Run with Gunner as the front-man unstoppable psycho, and give the Nature Boy a giant or a tag-team to work with, maybe even turn Matt Morgan and Crimson heel. Or keep Morgan and Crimson heel, and give Flair Samoa Joe and Magnus. I don’t know–but I’d like to see a dominant stable managed by Flair that dominated things INSIDE the ring. No political corporate power games, just a few guys who hold the gold and are tough to beat.
It might be ideal to do this after a face gets the world championship, like Storm, and set Flair’s Family against him. Maybe it’s the throwback retro loving wrestling fan that I am, but I think they are on to something with Flair managing Gunner, and I think they can capitalize on that Heenan/Haku like dynamic.
Sorry for posting a fricken novel. I tend to rant.
