ROH Superstar Jay Lethal appeared this week on the Honky Tonk Man’s “Shake Rattle & Roll”. Below are some of the highlights of that interview.
Jay on The Honky Tonk Man
“Honky, I have to start by saying I myself, along with Sonjay Dutt and Frankie Kazarian are three of the biggest Honky Tonk Man fans the world has ever seen. We have listened to every single HTM shoot out there. When I was with TNA in England, a bunch of the guys went out and drunk while me and Frankie stayed back and watched HTM to pass the time. I showed some of it to Jeff Jarrett because it was so funny and Jarrett said oh that Wayne Farris”.
Honky on his infamous Shoot Interviews
“I’m glad Jeff knows my name. They (shoot companies) pay you a decent payday to do them, all you do is knock guys. I’ve grown beyond that now. It was really something else.”
Jay on ROH
“It’s a new experience as far as the wrestling business goes. There’s a couple of guys out there that believe that wrestling is changing. ROH is mostly reaching out to that UFC style audience. We’re still going to be wrestling but we’re trying to base it on driving compeition to the UFC based fans”.
Jay on Eric Bischoff
“I had a question for you Honky. I was wondering if you enlighten me just a little bit about the problem with you and Eric Bischoff. When I was doing Black Machismo in TNA I never had a script so would just say whatever I wanted and would shout out a wrestling legends name. I remember after Bischoff and Hogan got there I was doing a pre tape and yelled where’s the Honky Tonk Man, I’m the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time. Bischoff said don’t say that and we had to cut it again.”
Honky on Jimmy Hart leaving TNA
“When my close friend Jimmy Hart was there, everytime he would say something Bischoff would just roll his eyes and had power back and forth between Hogan and BIschoff. Jimmy got tired of it. Bischoff makes sure Hogan gets a big fat pay cheque where he never has to wrestle. How do you get a contract where you can wrestle in Canada but not the company you work for?
Jay on Ric Flair
“The funny part is with Ric Flair. In my eyes the two people I looked up to was Ric Flair and Randy Savage. No matter what I will always love him, he gave me one of the greatest days of my life but he’s off the wall, unbelievable. Some of the stories. Unless you were there you’d never believe it”.
