Xplosion Championship Tournament Match
Brutus Magnus vs. Alex Shelley
Magnus is introduced by SoCal Val and is accompanied by Doug Williams, with new music. Alex Shelley is second out, clearly being the fan favourite and shaking hands with a few fans before getting in the ring.
Shelley plays up the crowd a bit, and we tie up. Magnus throws Shelley off with pure power, then raises his hands victorious. The crowd reacts surprisingly well to Magnus’ taunt, but a “Shelley, Shelley” chant still rings in the arena. The two tie up again, with Magnus throwing Shelley down again, this time face-first into the canvas. Magnus locks on an arm bar. Shelley rolls out and breaks the hold with his foot. Drop toe hold, front face lock, reversed on the mat by Magnus, reversed again by Shelley who gets out and both rise to their feet. Magnus then tells the crowd to shut up, garnering boo’s from the fans in attendance, who proceed to chant “USA, USA”.
The two go to tie up again, ducked by Shelley and three kicks-to-the-knee-and-chop combo’s. Shelley flies at Magnus with a forearm, but Magnus flies back with a shoulder, knocking Shelley down. Elbow drop attempt, missed, and Shelley rolls Magnus up in a pin, but gets a two. Magnus up, attempts a kick, held by Shelley. Shelley spins him around and delivers a chin breaker. Flying heel kick from Shelley rocks Magnus. Sliced Bread attempt, pushed off by Magnus. Shelley lands on the apron, stiff forearm to Magnus. Shelley keeps an eye on Williams, then shoulders Magnus in the stomach. Stunner-like guillotine on the top rope.
Magnus stunned in the corner. Shelley attempts a monkey flip but Magnus lands on his feet, and Magnus with a huge boot to the face.
Magnus has Shelley throttled on the middle rope as we return. Uppercut. Magnus attempts a vertical suplex. Shelley floats out. Magnus backs him into the corner. Shelley kicks him as he rushes in. Magnus catches the boot and throws it down, and Shelley drills Magnus’ head into the turnbuckle. Shelley climbs the turnbuckle, attempts a splash which is caught by Magnus, who modifies his position nicely into a vertical suplex and a pin, but only a two count.
Magnus locks on an arm lock to a prone Shelley, but Shelley comes out with knees to his head. Shelley into the ropes. Magnus follows and clotheslines Shelley down. Pin, one count.
Front chin lock. Shelley feeds off the chants and rises back up, breaking out of the lock. Magnus puts a stop to it with a big knee. Fireman’s carry, Shelley’s rapid elbows enough to get him out of it. Goes behind Magnus. Magnus elbows, and off into the ropes. This time Shelley follows, springboarding off the rope with a kick to Magnus’ face. Both are down for a ten count. Both up around seven. Shelley with some hard forearms stagger Magnus. Magnus attempts a big boot, but Shelley ducks and delivers an enziguri. Shelley with a kick of fury to Magnus as he gets up, and a basement dropkick to the knee sends the big man down to a knee, where Shelley can kick him in the head for a pin, but only a two.
Shelley goes to the top rope. Attempted splash, Magnus gets the knees up. Magnus DDT, pin, two count. Scoop slam attempt, Shelley out of it. Magnus rushes in and Shelley pulls down the rope to send Magnus to the floor. Shelley wastes no time and flies out through the ropes with a plancha!
A “this is awesome” chant rings through Stage 21 as Shelley throws Magnus back in the ring, gets back on the apron and kicks Magnus in the head. Williams is around to pull him down. Williams attempts a clothesline, missed, and Shelley gets a Sliced Bread on Williams outside!
Shelley back up top, attempts his patented stomp. Magnus moves. Shelley races back in, Magnus scoops him up, and a big sit out slam gets Magnus the three count.
Winner: Magnus, who receives a title shot against anyone in TNA
Borash says that Bruce Forsythe will be celebrating tonight as Magnus states down the camera that he can have any title he wants, and that the champions should be on guard.
