Xplosion – August 3, 2011
From the iMPACT Wrestling Zone in Orlando, Florida
Announced by Jeremy Borash and Taz
The show begins with the Xplosion opening package (which features “Welcome to the Gun Show” by In This Moment) and then we flip to Jeremy Borash and Taz in the iMPACT Wrestling Zone. The two men hype the night’s show noting that tonight is the debut of the new format for Xplosion. Up first is the iMPACT Wrestling Rewind which shows us a little bit of last week’s show including the Hulk Hogan and Kurt Angle face off that started the show and the continued craziness of the “Joker” version of Sting. After those highlights, we get to see some highlights from last week’s huge main event between Angle and Mr. Anderson – in a Steel Cage. Here is a little bit of video from that match:
After those clips we get this week’s iMPACTWrestling.com Classic Match of the Week which is actually the main event of last year’s HardCORE Justice pay-per-view. If you’re looking for a play-by-play of last year’s Rob Van Dam vs. Sabu match, then you can always check out our coverage from last year’s show by clicking here.
We’re back from a short break and Borash tosses us to this week’s edition of the Spin Cycle, which you can watch below.
After this week’s Spin Cycle is complete, Borash hypes this week’s Xplosion main event which is part of the Xplosion Championship Series as well as a Bound for Glory Series match.
Xplosion Championship Tournament Match
Bound for Glory Series
Crimson vs. Devon
We’re back from a short break and Borash tells us that Crimson vs. Devon is the first-ever Bound for Glory Series match on Xplosion. SoCal Val introduces Devon as he says hello to his two sons in the front row. Then Crimson comes to the ring from the Brownsville section of New York. Crimson makes his way to the ring and Jackson James calls for the bell as the iMPACT Wrestling Zone turns blue.
The two wrestlers lock up and Devon pushes Crimson into a corner. An arm drag, reverse, and headlock later and we have Devon tossed into the ropes and taking down the undefeated Crimson with a shoulderblock. Crimson recovers with a legsweep and a few arm drags between the men ends with the audience applauding the spotfest. The crowd starts a weak “Devon” chant while the two men jaw a little bit in the middle of the ring at each other.
Hold the phone! Down the ramp we have D’Angelo Dinero coming to make his way to ringside – oh wait! He’s making his way to Devon’s kids and Taz openly wonders why Devon doesn’t leave his kids at home and thus eliminate this problem.
We come back from commercial break and Crimson is taking control of the match. There are a few camera shots of Dinero cheering on Devon with Devon’s kids while Crimson hits a suplex. Dinero starts the crowd chanting a much stronger “Devon” chant than the first time around. Devon takes control in the ring and gives Crimson a running splash and side slam before slapping on a headlock to the undefeated Crimson. Devon yells to Dinero that he’s an asshole and whether he wants a match. Crimson takes advantage of Devon’s lazy focus and takes control of the match for a few minutes before Devon throws a flying shoulderblock to regain control. The flying shoulderblock is following up by a short-arm Lou Thesz Press by Devon and then dumping Crimson out onto the floor.
Devon takes a bottle of soda and cracks Crimson in the head with it. This sets up a whiplash into the steel cage that is reversed by Crimson and results in Devon crashing into his sons and one of them getting knocked out. Dinero gets annoyed at what’s going on, rips off his shirt, and takes matters into his own hands by attacking Crimson. Too late, though, because Jackson James has counted both men out.
Winner: Double Countout
Both men receive 2 points for a double countout, but the mayhem continues at ringside. As Xplosion goes off the air, Devon is yelling at Dinero and telling him that he’s a son of a bitch.
