The final cable rating and viewership estimates for last night’s episode of iMPACT Wrestling on Spike TV are now available and it looks like the show enjoyed a big jump in viewership as well as a nice increase in its final cable rating as compared to last week. This week’s episode of the show scored a final cable rating of 1.26 which represented about 1,794,000 viewers over the course of the show’s two hours.
This week’s final rating is 0.07 of a point higher and approximately 216,000 more viewers than last week’s episode, which scored a final cable rating of 1.19 with an average audience of 1,578,000 viewers.
We also know a little bit about how last night’s episode rated by hour. The first hour of the show received a 1.16 rating while the second hour received a 1.35 rating. Last night’s episode of iMPACT Wrestling on Spike TV had more viewers than prime time and late night programming on other cable channels like Comedy Central, TLC, FX, A&E Network, Bravo Tru TV, the Food Network, TBS (sorry Conan), the History Channel, Discovery Channel, E!, and HGTV.
It is also worth noting that the show’s total viewership is hard to estimate. This is because DVR+3 figures (the amount of people who watch the show on their DVR within three days of recording it) usually adds about 200,000 more viewers in addition to the viewership number reported above. Plus, Spike.com uploads each full episode of iMPACT Wrestling to its website for free online streaming for a three month period. The online streaming versions of the show typically generate about 20,000 views before they are taken down (some episodes have many more viewers, others have less). However, there is no way to know whether or not DVR or online viewers are part of the original viewership estimate, so these figures are rarely reported by wrestling websites (but they’re still good to know!).

So if we can be a little picky here, that’s classed as a 1.3, right? Not bad. I say that because I just have this feeling that next week will be back down again. Then the week after it will be back up, and so on.
Joe says
It depends on how you classify these things, but if you’re only rounding to tenths, then yes – this week the show scored a 1.3. I’ve always wondered about classifying to the tenth, though, since the figures are reported to the hundredth of a point. I guess it doesn’t matter, but yes – to the tenth of a point, this week iMPACT Wrestling scored a 1.3.

Just as an FYI to everyone – the ratings number reported last Friday was bumped up by 0.01 to a final rating of 1.26. 🙂

In a related story, and I know you’ve all been waiting to hear this, my hair grew .5 inches this month, depending on whether or not you round to the nearest tenth, or just guestimate. Hair length growth is usually measured by googling it and then regurgitating the first piece of questionable information one finds on the internet, which is the method I used in this case.
Call me crazy, but I don’t follow hair growth much week to week. I just like having hair.
Anyway, I’ll end this super convoluted analogy here, because it’s probably getting painful for everyone who is still reading it. 😀

Er, to clarify, don’t mean to suggest that the rating report is bogus, or unnecessary … I hope Impact Wrestling gets great ratings and is a successful show, and that’s about where it ends for me. 🙂

I understand your point, Dylan. I’m beginning to realize that many people just look for the highlighted part of these reports and don’t actually read and digest them fully. In fact, I have a “Major Impact” column which will be posted shortly after midnight that talks about the longer-term impact (pardon the pun) of people not really digesting the ratings and what it means for the promotion’s position on cable television.
More or less, it’s a column about how some of the things I’m reading on the internet (especially in the last 24 hours) are proving to me what I don’t want to believe – that some wrestling fans really do meet the popular stereotype of being plain old dummies. I think you’ll enjoy it – it’s a good read! Here’s a piece of the column:
“In previous weeks, iMPACT Wrestling has also surpassed viewership for programming on ESPN and ESPN 2, as well. In other words, Spike TV is beating its contemporaries by airing iMPACT Wrestling, period. This information is public, it’s available for these ‘news’ websites to report, and yet they don’t report it and the dummies don’t seek it out before they wonder who would want ‘3rd rate wrestling that gets a 1.1.’
Frankly, folks – I’m shocked. I’m absolutely shocked. As a wrestling fan, that type of dumb, stupid comment is embarrassing.”
Believe me, it gets really good!
