Nashville musician Goldy Locks gives the (wedding) gift of music
For a moment it looked like something of a new beginning for Nashville-based rocker Goldy Locks.
Introduced by her country-singer boyfriend at the Grand Ole Opry as the woman he was going to spend the rest of his life with, Goldy Locks eagerly anticipated the promise ring that he was to bring her the next day.
It was the first time in her life that the thought of marriage got her excited and, like any good musician, she had already written a song, “It’s a Sure Great Day for a Wedding,” an upbeat tune that was a far cry from the rocking anthems she was used to belting out.
“I was excited. I had never though about getting married before and just wrote the song out of pure joy,” she said.
But the country singer and his promise ring didn’t show. He didn’t even call. And it took only a couple of short texts to make it clear that while it may be a great day for a wedding, that wedding wouldn’t feature Goldy Locks walking down the aisle.
The end of the relationship could’ve marked the end of the song. Instead, Goldy Locks decided to celebrate, in a way, the happy day that she missed out on.
“I was a little down about it all, but I got to thinking that it’s getting to be wedding season and why don’t I put it out there,” she said.
So into the studio she went and then, recording in hand, it was off to the wedding chapel for a video shoot featuring Goldy Locks, her band, a mass of kids and one of the messiest food fights this side of “Animal House.”
And as a gift for all of those brides and brides-to-be who are luckier than herself, Goldy Locks is giving the song away for free.
“It’s kind of a cathartic thing to,” she said. “Plus, I thought it would be really fun. It’s just a good song, really upbeat and really fun, a good song to get a dress fitted to or play at a reception.”
