As most of you probably know at this point, the interwebs have been abuzz about the recently decision by Mick Foley to leave iMPACT Wrestling. Up until the week before last, Foley had been playing the role of The Network’s special advisor for iMPACT Wrestling. Foley has been playing with the fans via his Twitter account, first posting the following last Thursday night:
“Wait, I was FIRED?!? Are you CEREAL..I mean SERIOUS?!?”
I’m not sure what the “CEREAL” reference was about, but Foley then tweeted the following on the next day:
“Wait, I just checked my DVR and it cut out during Bischoff’s speech. I can’t be fired; I just got back a few weeks ago. Right?”
I have a suspicion that Foley was getting a dig in at iMPACT Wrestling for ending their show after the time that most DVRs stop recording – which is certainly a criticism that I would share (though I’m not sure if that is an ultimate knock on iMPACT Wrestling or the DVR software). Being a smart guy, Foley knew that most of his long-time fans wanted to see him back in WWE, so next he posted the following on Twitter:
“Wow, I’m overwhelmed by the responses. But it looks like a toss-up – 90% WWE, 5% Impact, 3% just want me to be happy, 2% try nude modelling!”
After that tweet, the fans started asking Foley about what his relationship was with iMPACT Wrestling and whether he was leaving angry, etc. In response, Foley tweeted the following items on Sunday:
“I pushed hard for changes I felt would benefit Impact Wrestling. I can understand how some would interpret that as difficult to work with.”
“Yeah,@stevenamoney . I like everyone at @ImpactWrestling – we just had some major differences of opinion. I wish them all well…for real.”
“One of my favorite parts of returning to @impactwrestling was getting to know @hulkhogan4real a little bit. I’m completely serious.”
“Yes, @ironbound36 – I do personally like @HulkHogan4Real , and got a rush out of the in-ring segments we did together, especially the first.”
And that’s pretty much all that there is in terms of confirmed news from Foley regarding his fallout with iMPACT Wrestling. There are a great deal of copy and paste, hate-mongering websites out there that are trying to make this a bigger story than what it is, which is that there was a difference of opinion and Foley opted to stay off camera. That’s it. In the world of professional wrestling, I’d never say “never” in terms of seeing Foley on iMPACT Wrestling again (especially since his contract doesn’t expire until September 2011), but who knows? For now, all that anyone knows as a confirmed fact is the information that Foley reported above – that’s he done with the promotion and ready to move on.

It’s possible that the “cereal/serious” comment was somehow in reference to the episode of South Park which featured Al Gore and Man Bear Pig, which was a parody of Global Warming. Al Gore would say “I’m super cereal!”
Anyway I’m saddened one of my favorite wrestlers is leaving TNA. Hope he comes back some day.
