William B. West says
I gotta say after reading this release the name change message is still muddled. Why does the release not read “TNA presents the Impact Wrestling tour”? It instead starts out sounding as if Impact Wrestling is the company name. They then direct us to TNALiveEvents.com.
Joe says
Good point. I’m also a little confused/annoyed about the stylization of the word “impact” now. It used to be that the Thursday night show was stylized as iMPACT! because the “i” and exclamation point offset each other.
Then they made the change and it was called iMPACT Wrestling (which is what I currently use). Now we see a press release that begins with “IMPACT WRESTLING” (check the link above). And then later in that first sentence, the word “IMPACT” is used by itself. I’ve also seen “Impact Wrestling” used on TNA’s public relations material, too.
What gives?
Anyone who knows anything about public relations, marketing, and branding knows that there has to be consistency throughout your approach. You have to choose a stylization and stick with it.
William B. West says
Your points on consistency are dead on. A marketing effort lives and dies on making a product or service recognizable and repeatable via word of mouth. What product are we passing along? Impact Wrestling the show? TNA Wrestling the company? TNA’s Impact Wrestling?
I’ve also found via promoting Indy shows that the ALL CAPS approach is annoying to many and bold is a better approach for emphasis.
Everyone here is a fan of TNA, but it’s hard to explain this effort.
