A few minutes ago, we posted a report from The Pilot regarding Jeff Hardy‘s experience in court today. Well, I was just sent the link to a second report regarding Hardy’s drug trial – this one was printed by The Fayetteville Observer.
Like The Pilot, The Observer reports that Hardy’s case was postponed so that he could undergo evaluation for an in-patient drug and alcohol addiction treatment program. After an initial interview regarding the possibility of entering this type of 28-day program, an administrator reported that she believed Hardy was “borderline” in his need to enter the program.
You can read the entire report below or on The Fayetteville Observer’s website. Here’s hoping for the best for Hardy in the road ahead.
CARTHAGE – The drug case against professional wrestling star Jeff Hardy was continued today so he could be evaluated for an in-patient drug and alcohol addiction treatment program.
Hardy’s lawyer, James Van Camp, asked that his client be considered for a Sentencing Services program, which works to give defendants alternatives to serving jail or prison time.
“I take it to mean you are making assessments for a chemical dependance program?” Superior Court Judge James Webb asked.
Moore County’s Sentencing Services administrator Becky Carlson said she was evaluating Hardy’s need for either an out-patient or in-patient addiction program.
Carlson said Hardy was “borderline” in his need for a 28-day in-patient treatment program, though she had only conducted an initial review.
The case, which has been continued numerous times in Moore County Superior Court, stems from a September 2009 arrest during which lawmen found 260 Vicodin prescription painkillers, 180 Soma prescription muscle relaxants, 55 milliliters of anabolic steroids, powder cocaine residue and drug paraphernalia when they searched Hardy’s house outside of Cameron.
Hardy faces several charges that include trafficking in opium by possession, possession of cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for keeping and selling controlled substances, and two counts of possession with intent to sell a controlled substance.
The case was continued until June 1.
