Jason Powell and ProWrestling.net are reporting that TNA Wrestling’s Eric Bischoff has been promoted to an Executive Producer position by TNA. The report says Bischoff is in charge of representing the company in talks with SpikeTV executives as well as other duties. This promotion supposedly took place a couple of months ago.
This report is unconfirmed at this time by TNA and is not clearly sourced by the originator. The duties reported sound very similar to what it has been believed Eric was doing for a long time, so this may be just a title change/pay raise situation. Spike and TNA have to be happy with the continuing ratings rise and if Eric did get a promotion he must be considered an integral part of that recent growth of the company.
We will keep you updated if/when we get confirmation.

If this report is true (and I imagine that it would be), then it was only a matter of time. A lot of the internet folks like to bash Eric Bischoff, but the truth is that he has an incredible mind for the wrestling business and an even better mind for television production.
I might also note that the “Executive Producer” position was the one that he had in WCW before they started to pop…

It’s funny how he gets blamed for the demise of WCW but none of the credit for its success by the majority of the IWC. It’s almost like the world of politics, even though the failed Time Warner/AOL merger was the real cause of the closing he still gets the blame.
He definitely had some shortcomings as the head of WCW in the touring and licensing areas, but there is no denying his success on the television end and it seems that TNA has recognized his contributions to their company on that end as well.

Just like Joe said, it was only a matter of time.
