This is awesome news on TNA’s part. While it would be nice if the price point was lower I imagine due to their existing TV PPV contract offering a lower price on the internet would be prohibited.

While I’m cool with TNA Wrestling finally putting their pay-per-view events online for fans in the United States, I think that they’re missing the point in some respects. I have a beautiful, brand new 48″ flat screen television that shows high definition in any range available. I also have a high definition feed coming into my cable box so that if I ever order a pay-per-view event, I can watch the event in stunning clarity.
The reason that I don’t order TNA Wrestling pay-per-views is because I can’t justify an additional $35 each month on my cable bill for the three hour show. I just can’t do it.
So while I’m glad that I now have the option of watching the pay-per-views in standard definition on my 18″ laptop screen, I don’t see why I’d spend $35 for a sub-par product. Now, if the online pay-per-view feed was half price, then I think my budget might be able to allow that type of expense every now and again…

I totally agree. I think this is TNA getting it’s foot in the door of iPPV’s. From most accounts iNDemand takes upwards of 50% of teh PPV gross thus the large fee. From what I can tell if TNA is using a 3rd party they likely are only charging 5%. I know there were US clearance issues before with iNDemand. I wonder if they had to promise iNDemand a cut of the iPPV to get clearance?
