Pro Wrestling journalist Alex Marvez recently interviewed former Team 3-D member Brother Ray (real name Mark LoMonaco). Alex covers a variety of subjects with Brother Ray including breaking up 3-D, the heel turn, rejuvenating himself and his character, Paul Heyman, why John Cena is the number one guy in the business right now, and why returning to the WWE did not appeal to him.
On why he did not go back to the WWE, “We made a lot of money, learned a lot of stuff and are very appreciative of everything we got in WWE,” LoMonaco said. “But if we go back, what tag teams are we going to work with? They could have thrown together some guys, but it would never have been like with those we worked with, like the Hardys, Edge and Christian, the Acolytes and Too Cool. One thing Devon and I are big on is never taking a step backward.”
He also sites three reasons for returning to TNA:
- The ability to be both a wrestler and a backstage agent
- The convenience of being close to their 3D Wrestling Academy
- The input in their own storylines and the freedom to do their own international bookings (which are lucrative).
Brother Ray gives some great insight to his decision making processes and insight into the business in this interview. His thoughts on resigning with TNA shows that wrestlers do in fact look at more than dollars when coming to TNA. While you read often about “unnamed sources” complaining about TNA’s pay scale it seems wrestlers that are on the record do not have that same beef.
