Former TNA Wrestling star Kevin Nash was recently a guest on “Tha O Show”. Kevin was interviewed by hosts Big Daddy Donnie and Dan-e-o.
Kevin was asked about Paul Heyman’s recent comments where he stated if he was given the reigns of TNA he would cut every performer over the age of 40. Nash shared the following thoughts on the matter, “Am I the only one who watched Gran Torino and completely believed that Clint Eastwood could do what he did in that movie at 80 years old. It’s about the character, the human being. You could be 80 and be a wuss, but you were probably a wuss when you were 22. You’re not going to become a badass at 80, but if you were Dirty Harry chances are you’re still going to pull it off when you’re 80. I’m 51 years old and I don’t have anybody coming up and pushing on me”.
The big man makes some very good points. In entertainment or in everyday life I think it’s a big mistake to discount someone based on age. If Heyman had came in and did this I think he would be throwing away some very valuable resources.
Kevin talks about a variety of other topics, including his latest Miz controversy. you can check out the full interview at the above link.

I agree completley. Only smark fanboys think that age matters, but in reality age does not matter in wrestling. Wrestling is entertainment just like movies. Look at the likes of Christopher LEE, Anthony Hopkins and Gene Hackman – all are old but are great actors.
As Kevin Nash said so rightly, it’s about character, not age.

I think if Paul or anyone were to come into TNA, given some free reign to change things, the first would be to do to TNA what Eric Bischoff did when he came into power in WCW – cut costs to make the machine leaner & more productive. As much as I like Hogan, Sting, Foley, Flair and all of the other big names that I assume make top dollar for little effort/ring time, you really have to stop and access if you’re getting what you pay for. And if not, you might have to cut a few loose. I think a few should be kept around for marketing purposes, like what Dixie did by keeping Sting. But Nash maks a great point. Age does not matter. I find Ric Flair to be probably the most entertaining person not just in TNA or wrestling, but on TV as a whole right next to Steve Carell on “The Office” and Stephen Colbert on “The Colbert Report”.

Flair has been amazing in TNA the last few months. I don’t know if credit goes to Bischoff, or Russo or whomever decide to let Flair be Flair but it has been great. Flair is showing everyone how a heel should be a heel.

@DAVID GUYLLETTE
I believe and I don’t have the quote right now that Heyman made a blanket statement about wrestlers over 40 and not just Kevin Nash. You may think Nash is washed up, but is every wrestler over 40?
