Earlier tonight during TNA Wrestling’s annual Turning Point pay-per-view, Shore’s Robbie E. defeated Jay Lethal to become the new TNA X-Division Champion! Here is the official match update provided by TNA Wrestling via their Facebook page:
“Ongoing Turning Point Results: Robbie E defeats Jay Lethal to become the new X Division Champion!”
As I wrote in the TNAStars.com predictions for Turning Point, I’m a big fan of Robbie E. and Cookie – and not just because I live on the real Jersey Shore and I know a lot of people who are exactly like these two characters. I think that these two have some talent and they definitely draw heat from the viewing audience so I’m glad that TNA Wrestling is giving them a chance to run with the ball a little bit. Congratulations, Robbie E.!

While I’m not really a fan of Jersey Shore (and wanted a long shower after watching my 1st & only episode) I also think Robbie has some talent, and Cookie can work the mic. Both have tons of charisma as well. Part of me thinks putting such talented stars in a Jersey Shore ripoff is a waste, since they might always be written off as just a parody and their real talent not being recognized. But they play the roles so well that it might not matter.

I think it comes down to talent and performance ability. Most folks would have written off a guy like Nick Dinsmore once he began playing that mentally-challenged role. However, he knew how to play it to perfection and actually got over with the fans in a major way. The challenge, I think, for the Shore duo is to be hated for their heel actions instead of just being booed for their gimmick. For that to happen, though, the fans need to give them a chance and it seems like the holier-than-thou denizens of the iMPACT! Zone don’t want to give them that chance.
