TNA star Mr. Anderson recently spoke with Fanhouse and the subject of unprotected chair shots came up. According to Ken TNA will no longer allow them, “TNA has absolutely thrown down the gauntlet and said no more unprotected chair shots, and every time there is a chair involved in the ring, the agents will come up and say please make sure for me that you are not going to … that you’re going to put your hand up. Please tell me you’re going to put your hand up or it’s going to be a back shot or something like that. The chair shot that I received from Jeff Hardy was not intended to hit the back of my head. I heard through the grapevine that there were some people who were concerned about that. That was an accident and, you know what, in our business, accidents are going to happen. Sometimes you’re going to get a boo-boo and things are going to hurt.”
Fans are sure to be divided on this development. With the recent medical findings on the long term effects of concussion this is a sound policy in my opinion.

The first video I watched after downloading the new TNA app for the iPhone was of Jeff Hardy giving Anderson that nasty chairshot, and the aftermath of Anderson getting stitches. It was pretty graphic, and concussions are nothing to shrug at and go “well that’s what wrestling is about.” I think ridiculous showings like stopping a match over a cut like WWE now does is too far, but banning unprotected chairshots is something I would love to see.

3 years ago I was in a rear end shunt(Car Crash) and I suffered for 3 years, and still am. After all the orthopaedic issues had healed I still had blackouts, dizzyness, memory loss amongst other things. I was diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome – basically what Ken Anderson has at teh moment. I have this now pretty much for life, it wont get better, it wont get away and it has stopped me working, lost me my company and changed my life forever. For what I have experienced so far, if banning unprotected headshots protects these guys in the ring, then I am all for it – I loved ECW and teh hardcore stuff but you gotta ask how much damage it actually does long term. I wish Ken Anderson all the best and hope he is back in teh ring soon
