LA PORTE — TNA Wrestling is coming to the La Porte County Fair, and it might not be what you’re thinking.
Spike TV’s TNA (Total Nonstop Action) Wrestling, which features several male divisions and a couple of female divisions, (including a “knockout” division), is said by its founder and spokesman to be “family-friendly.”
“Our event is very family-friendly, believe it or not,” said Chris Thomas, public relations manager with TNA Entertainment, LLC. “We keep our live shows as family-friendly as wrestling can be. We don’t do blood at these events.”
“Professional wrestling as a whole is entertaining,” Thomas said, “You never know what to expect.”
“We are just getting into the fair business,” said Jeff Jarrett, who founded TNA and wrestles himself.
Jarrett added that wrestling has long been a feature at fairs.
“It works out well for a family to come out and the fair customer and the wrestling customer have always gone hand-in-hand,” Jarrett said. “It’s a good, healthy marriage.”
The TNA performances involve six matches involving 18 to 20 wrestlers.
Jarrett said TNA Wrestling is “the most interactive experience” in the wrestling world.
“From the time the doors open (to the time the last person leaves), we truly give the fans the most interactive experience,” he said.
Autograph sessions are held before the matches and at intermissions.
Some fans will be allowed to go backstage to meet TNA superstars.
Ring announcer Jeremy Borash is slated to hide a backstage pass at the fairgrounds and announce its location on Twitter before the show, Thomas said.
“It’s almost a three-ring circus,” Thomas said. “There’s always something to do.”
Thomas added that attendees can meet several wrestlers and get their pictures taken with them by the end of the performance.
Scheduled to appear are Jarrett, “The Charismatic Enigma” Jeff Hardy, Mr. Anderson, “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles, TNA World Tag Team Champion “Big Sexy” Kevin Nash, “Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe, Desmond Wolfe, TNA Knockouts Champion Madison Rayne and others.
The show is going to be performed at the fair Saturday, July 24 at 7 p.m. The performances are televised on Spike TV Thursday nights at 8 p.m. The La Porte performance is not slated to be televised, Thomas said.
Tickets are on sale now at www.laportecountyfair.com. Customers may charge by phone at 219-362-2647. Tickets are also expected to be available for purchase at the La Porte County Fair office.
