Rumors abound about what is going on between Paul Heyman and TNA Wrestling. Some think that Heyman and Dixie Carter are closer to a deal than ever while others suggest that Heyman is playing the internet media against its own speculative nature. Still others (this guy included) think that Heyman is running a very hard-nosed negotiation because he thinks he can get most of what he wants.
Of course, that doesn’t stop me from wondering what happens to Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan if/when Paul Heyman comes in. I have to imagine that Eric Bischoff will either be relegated to an executive producer position or possibly worse and that Hulk Hogan would retain his small ownership interest in the company and be used sparingly. I hope that speculation is incorrect because I really think that the trio of Hogan, Bischoff, and Heyman could create some incredible on-screen electricity as well as a great backstage atmosphere for the wrestlers.
Anyway, the folks at the Sun (UK) provided a synopsis of a Paul Heyman interview after Brock Lesnar’s recent UFC fight. Here is that synopsis:
LEGENDARY wrestling promoter Paul Heyman has said he would join TNA – but ONLY if he could earn $25-30million from the company.
The ECW mastermind has been linked with TNA for some time but has never spoken publicly.
But now, in an interview with Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez and Dave Metzler, the former SunSport columnist talked openly and honestly about just what it would take to bring him to Dixie Carter’s wrestling promotion.
He started by giving his current verdict on the group, saying: “TNA need to prove they have a great product.
“They need to show that product to the market. The brand, TV show and the company need to mean something.
“It doesn’t have to be me who does it either.
“Eric Bischoff, Hulk Hogan – it can be Velvet Sky for all I care – it just has to be someone with vision.”
Then Paul started talking about what it would take to lure him back into the wrestling business and go up against his former boss Vince McMahon and the WWE.
Heyman said: “TNA are 5%-10% of the market share right now and Vince has the rest.
“They need to redefine the company and take about 10% of that market share off the WWE.
“Then they make some serious money and bring in multi-millions.
“If I could take the company and turn it around, boost PPV revenue, work with Spike TV and make it work then it would be worth the emotional investment for me.”
The committed family man added: “There’s nothing that I’m doing now that will pay $25-30million dollars over the course of the next five years.
“If that’s a situation that can happen, and I can also put a team together and put together a five year plan, then it merits a lot of consideration.
“If it’s anything less than that – then I’m not taking the time away from my children.”
