It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of everything Kayfabe Commentaries does. Be it their YouShoot, Guest Booker or Ring Roast series, I’ve enjoyed them all, which is why I’m always delighted when a new release drops through my letterbox.
Ringside with Terry Funk sees the legendary Bill Apter join the Funker as they watch some of his great matches from the 70’s and 80’s, from his World title victory against Jack Brisco through to his I Quit match with Ric Flair.
Sadly, because of copyright reasons, we don’t actually get to see the matches, but that doesn’t really matter.
With Apter posing the questions to his old Friend Funk not only talks about the matches concerned he also discuss the issues surrounding them. But he doesn’t stop there. He also talks about other subjects, such as the controversial death of Bruiser Brody.
Without going into too much detail, as someone who enjoys listening to old wrestling stories this was a joy to behold. Funk, for the most part, tells it like it is, only holding back on the more sensitive subjects.
As for Apter, while many fans deride him as a bygone from another age to me he’s perfect for this kind of release. He’s one of the best wrestling writers the world has ever seen. His knowledge is without question, and that’s why he fits this role perfectly.
In conclusion – Kayfabe Commentaries have done it again. This is a hell of a release, and if, like me, you’re an old school wrestling fan you’ll love this. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
