Everyone is buzzing about Bryan Danielson’s firing by choking out he Ring Announcer, Justin Roberts, with his tie and a no-choking with foreign object rule that has been put in place since the Benoit Tragedy in 2007. But in January 2008 JBL hung Chris Jericho with a microphone cord off the Raw set. And Chris choked JBL with a microphone cord over the top rope at the Royal Rumble. The following picture is straight from the Royal Rumble 2008 history page and shows quite clearly Chris Jericho choking JBL out with a Microphone cord, the same rule Danielson broke to get fired 2 years after this happened. There’s an important detail to add to this story – at the time, WWE was not a PG product and did not care if such a “choking” action occurred, plus there’s always the excuse that it’s on PPV. This whole firing was ridiculous and a terrible move if you ask me, as it weakened their roster of newcomers greatly. Quite honestly, this was just all bad timing with the boss’ wife trying to get into politics. They even told Bryan that he’ll be brought back once the whole thing quiets down. Still, firing him was an idiotic move in my opinion.
