Lots of notes from the TNA Slammiversary PPV, which I’ve just returned home from:
*TNA turned several hundred fans away yesterday from the PPV. Since it was a big PPV event on the company calendar and over 100 fans came in from out of town for the “Slammin’ Celebration” deal, there was a huge influx of fans.
*Before the PPV, backstage tours were given to fans who came in for the “Slammin’ Celebration” with names like Socal Val and Jeremy Borash giving them a personal walk-through of the different areas.
*Abyss suffered a lot of cuts and scratches on his arm and a deep laceration on his forehead as neither the barbed wire nor the broken glass were gimmicked in the Monster’s Ball match.
*For anyone worried about Desmond Wolfe given his history of concussions in the past, I am told he was OK after the bout.
*The Roxxi stipulation was added yesterday afternoon. Everyone seems to believe that was her final night with the company (and there were some who were really upset and surprised about it) but my gut feeling is at some point she’ll be back since she’s such a good hand. Hell, they could always make her the female Midnight Rider!
*TNA President Dixie Carter and her husband watched the PPV from the second row last night. At one point, a young fan brought her a hand-made TNA birthday card.
*Pat Kenny, D-Lo Brown, Brother Ray and Al Snow worked as agents last night.
*TNA has changed the layout of how they use the Impact Zone again. This was the first time I had been in the building since they eliminated the six-sided ring and added the ramp, etc. and it made the venue feel a little smaller, although it actually added more seats on the floor underneath the hard camera. A number of sets (backstage, offices, etc.) that had been housed in a second soundstage are now hidden out of view but are within in the Impact Zone and surprisingly, TNA no longer has any merchandise being sold at the venue.
*The fan who won TNA’s Ric Flair contest was brought into the ring before the PPV to cut a promo as Flair before the live crowd.
