The other weekend house show was 5/22 in Houston, which drew 1,500 fans. Williams pinned Kazarian in an X title match. Real good opener. Rayne pinned Hamada to keep the Knockouts title in the worst match on the show. Machine Guns beat Beer Money when Alex Shelley pinned James Storm. Beer Money played heel but were actually more popular here than the Machine Guns, which makes sense since Storm’s gimmick is being a cowboy and the Guns’ gimmick is being from Michigan. Jarrett did an interview with his arm in a sling. He mentioned the three biggest signings in TNA history as Angle, RVD and Hardy. Pretty interesting who wasn’t mentioned. He said Hardy was the most charismatic wrestler in the game, and that Angle was the best wrestler in the history of the business. Fans chanted “Thank you Jeff.” Angle beat Anderson in 3:18 with an ankle lock. Angle was hurting bad. His ribs were all taped up. Apparently he hurt them the night before in Lake Charles. He was overselling during the match because before the show when he was signing autographs he wasn’t selling them at all. Anderson was cheered like crazy when he came out. He tried to turn the crowd, but wasn’t very successful at doing so. Joe beat Wolfe in a very good match. Joe came out dancing to his ring music. Wolfe was the most over heel on the show. Joe even did a dive at a house show. RVD pinned Styles in a short title match, going 9:03, but good action. Was told by one person who goes to all the WWE shows that this was more enjoyable than any WWE house show in years. The crowd makeup and look was the same as you’d see at a WWE show, except minus the kids. Pretty split between Whites, African-American and Hispanics, mostly 18-34 males. Booker T and Shelton Benjamin (who lives in the Houston area as well) were both backstage at the show. Charlie Haas, who also lives in the area, was working that night on a Jersey All Pro Wrestling show in Rahway, NJ. Because of the budget issues, having spent so much on recent acquisitions, while it’s still expected they may add a person or two and have had talks with some people, they are a lot more conservative when it comes to money offers than they were a couple of months ago.
