Long time TNA fans will remember The Naturals, a tag team comprised of Chase Stevens and Andy Douglas and managed by the late Chris Candido. Below is an article regarding Andy Douglas’ decision to retire from professional wrestling over the weekend:
Saturday night, Showtime All-Star Wrestling returned to the Nashville fairgrounds, but little did the fans know that the main event would be the retirement for one of the wrestlers.
Andy Douglas, 31, had one of the best matches of his career against his former tag team partner Chase Stevens in a cage match. After Stevens hand was raised for the victory, Douglas called for the mic. While some were expecting the two to start brawling after the match, it was a complete 180 degree turn. Douglas announced that the match that he had that night was his last.
“It’s time for me to turn the page on a new chapter in my life,” Douglas said in a release on Saturday night. “I have so many great memories to take with me.”
The guys had been tag team partners wrestling against and with each other all over the south and the world. But they would have one of their greatest tag team victories when they won the TNA Tag Team titles. However, that would have a heart-breaking situation when their manager Chris Candido passed away days after the match.
In his release Douglas would thank several of the wrestlers that have been with him from the beginning up in Morehead, Kentucky, with promoter Jack Barker and Scotty Ace. From there, he would make it way down to Tennessee and started wrestling with the NWA where he would get noticed by TNA. After that, history has been written.
