THE Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase says there is no new wrestling war between WWE and TNA.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, the 2010 Hall of Famer dismissed any suggestion that there is genuine competition in the wrestling industry today.
“No, it’s not a war. No, it’s not. The WWE has no real competition. There isn’t anybody out there as I see it who can replicate the machine that WWE has become. It’s unbelievable.
“I said this way back, what WCW did was take Turner’s money and bought talent, stars that were created by Vince McMahon, and when the newness of that wore off, it was over.
“The one thing that Vince can do that nobody else can do better is create stars. He grew up with it, it’s been his life. He has the same passion for it as we do.
“There is no competition. There is no war. There is no opponent.” DiBiase has earned his stripes as one of the greatest proponents of the game over three decades at WWF, WCW and latterly WWE. His ability to aggrandise and adapt to a unique gimmick set him in stone in the hearts and minds of wrestling fans like FT.
“I have a lot of friends over there in TNA. The reality is this. I am 56 years old. Hulk Hogan is the same age as me. Ric Flair is 61 years old. No-one is interested in re-hashing a story which is 15 years old – who wants to watch a bunch of old men?
“My father died in the ring, and I made a promise to myself that I would never stay too long.” A salient point if the US ratings are anything to go by this week. Time will tell what the UK fans make of it all. RVD and Jeff Hardy returned for
TNA’s first Monday, but seemingly made no difference, probably due to the complete lack of advertising.
Consequently, they took a pounding. Wrestling is as much about creating stars as plugging the established ones, and Impact looked a little busy with vets to me.
Stay tuned to FT in the run-up to Mania for more from the DiBiase clan, as FT had the pleasure of entertaining the pair in London last week.
