UFC 110 In Sydney
The Ultimate Fighting Championship hit Sydney Australia on Sunday afternoon and what a day it was. I’ve been to many WWE live events but this was my first UFC/MMA event and my first pay per view event and it was more then I expected. The best fight for me on the card was Australia’s own George Sotiropoulos vs Joe Stevenson, the Aussie fans were really behind George and he came out the winner via unanimous decision. It was great to see a MMA legend such as Wanderlei Silva fight live and also defeat Michael Bisping via unanimous decision. Bruce Buffer was a really exciting ring announcer and made the whole event very entertainment in the non fight side of things. Not going to touch on UFC to much as this is a wrestling column but for more news and results on UFC 110 head over to FightMMA.net. Thanks UFC for coming to Australia and glad to hear you’ll be coming back.
Daniel Bryan Push
Stars like Samoa Joe, Desmond Wolfe, AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan are truly the future stars of professional wrestling. It was great to see Bryan Danielson finally in a WWE ring after nearly 10 years on the independents, everyone would have to agree with me that no one would of expected such a big push, facing World champion Chris Jericho on the very first episode of WWE NXT. It’s going to be very interesting to see what WWE do with Daniel Bryan, I can see a feud building with his WWE Pro The Miz in which Bryan may have a United States title run. I’m very happy to finally see Danielson in the WWE can you can put this guy up there with some of the best pure wrestlers names like Angle, Guerrero and even Benoit yes I said the B word, please don’t stuff this one up Vince.
Thoughts On Elimination Chamber/Sheamus
Very disappointing that Sheamus did not retain the WWE Championship, I’ve become a Sheamus fan over the last few months ever since he won the title back at the TLC PPV in December last year. Sheamus needed to win the chamber match to really put him over as the guy WWE have been trying to get him as (well half trying) I can see why they took the title off him (to enhance the Cena/Batista match at mania) but I honestly think Sheamus could of went in to Wrestlemania 26 as champion and faced Triple H with Sheamus getting the win, and now you have a mega star in Sheamus, but WWE dropped the ball on the Sheamus experiment. I’ve been hearing negative reviews about the RAW chamber match but I enjoyed it and was entertained by it as well as the Smackdown chamber match in which Chris Jericho pinned Undertaker (help from HBK) to become the new World Heavyweight Champion and will now face Edge at Wrestlemania.
My Wrestlemania 26 Card – Next Two Matches
In last edition of Breakout I announced a 3 way match for the Intercontinental title, Drew McIntye v Dolph Ziggler v John Morrision. This match I think has a lot of interest with 3 of WWE’s best upcoming stars facing off for the IC title at WWE’s biggest show of the year, this match will help all 3 and should help elevate the Intercontinental title. If you watched WWE Elimination Chamber this past Monday (Aussie time) a Randy Orton v Ted Dibiase match looks like it’s in the works for WM26 this year and this is the next match on my Wrestlemania 26 card. Orton has to work as the heel and Dibiase as face in this match with Cody Rhodes undecided on who he will align with. Next match will be for the World Heavyweight Championship as The Undertaker goes up against John Cena, streak v title. John Cena is the only top star on the WWE roster (except Chris Jericho) not to face The Undertaker at Wrestlemania.
