Hulk Hogan appeared on the “Monday Night Mayhem” radio show yesterday, and discussed all things TNA. Apparently, even Hogan himself is still getting used to his being in charge.
“I’m just starting to figure this crap out right now dealing with networks, ad sales, cross-overs, going to the top of the hours, quarter-hours,” he said.
Hogan said the company is closer to going live on Monday nights than before, but it’s not as easy as some of the “smart-marks” may think.
“A lot of the fans, a lot of the ’smart marks’ are saying: ‘We should go live on Monday nights,’” he said. “They have no idea what that entails. I”m just now having people sit me down after 30 years of wrestling and go: ‘Guy, you know what it’s all about to work the match and be on the road. Now you’re dealing with the economy, the network, and the way the audience flips and changes the channel.’”
Hogan even admitted to some of the mistakes he’s made in TNA so far.
“It’s not a cookie-cutter thing…you just like down like you did when you ran against Vince [McMahon] with Ted Turner,” he said. “I thought that would work just to work it in and make a crack, but things are different than they were two, three months ago because of the economy….It’s ever changing moving parts, so we did learn from our mistakes, like when you get successful sometimes, you can get full of yourself.”
“The Hulkster” also said he learned a valuable lesson during his Australia tour: He shouldn’t be wrestling anymore, because of the condition his back, hips and legs are in.
“Whenever I got into this thing, I was going: ‘Oh my God, how am I going to pull this thing off without climbing in the ring and wrestling?’” he said. “Because that’s always been my safety net. No matter what people say about my work…whether you love me or hate me, I could always reach into the bag of tricks and pull out the old yellow boots…”
But apparently there are no yellow boots in Hogan’s future, or in his daughter Brooke’s.
“Her just sitting in the crowd, hanging out in the crowd is good enough for me,” he said. “I don’t want to see her crawling around half-naked on WWE. I don’t want to see her getting chest-slapped or drop kicked by the Beautiful People. At the end of the day, I love Brooke to death and I wouldn’t wish this life on anyone.”
