In his latest “Foley Files” column, Mick Foley talks about how he is planning to help the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame by auctioning off some of his stuff. He writes:
There’s another guy I met during those early ring-setting days, named John Pantozzi, who helps run the Pro-Wrestling Hall of Fame in upstate New York – I believe the town is called Amsterdam, but I could be wrong. John gives me a call about twice a year or so, to let me know when the next Hall fundraiser is going to be. I was able to make it on one occasion, a couple of years ago, and had a great time talking with Bret “The Hitman” Hart, Ted DiBiase, and so many of the great wrestlers who get together to support the Hall. For the past few years, I have been unable to attend, but this year, on pretty short notice, I contacted John and asked him if I might be able to do something a little “different” at this year’s event on February 20th – I believe in the New Jersey town of Pompton Plains. Yes, I really should know where I am sending people, and if I knew a little bit more about the computer, I could pull that info up while I was typing, but hey, a few months ago, I was still writing these things by hand and having my son type them for me. So, instead, I will just direct you to their website, where you can look up all the material for yourselves. It’s www.pwhf.org Hope you can check it out.
Yes, it’s the big Mick Foley sale, featuring well over 100 items representing both my wrestling career, and personal life; things that a wrestling fan really can’t get anywhere else. Things like: a snakeskin wallet that I bought on a wrestling tour of Nigeria in 1987, an alligator claw beltbuckle, that I used as a foreign object in a battle royal in World Class in 1989, a Sgt Slaughter poster that I had hanging in my college dorm room in 1985, or even the Yankees wood plaque I received as a Christmas present in 1978. I always think back to how I would have felt if Yankee great Thurman Munson had offered me an item like one of these. It wouldn’t really have to be a great item, like a game worn jersey to mean anything. Hey, a Thurman Munson alligator claw belt buckle would have been just fine!
We are still working out the particulars, but it is only open to those buying a ticket to the dinner, and doors will open two hours early to my special sale. Everyone who buys a ticket to the dinner gets one free item, and then can feel free to buy other items as well, though we may place a limit on the number of items any one person can buy in order to ensure that every ticket holder gets an item. So, if you are a big wrestling fan, and are sitting around thinking “you know, life is pretty good, but I would be so much happier if I had Mick Foley’s 25 disc CD changer in my room”, than February 20th is your lucky day! Yes!
