Tonight TNA Wrestling presents its annual Genesis pay-per-view. This event will be taking place at 8:00pm EST live from the iMPACT! Zone at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
Below are my predictions for this year’s Genesis. For future pay-per-views, I hope to have some of my friends and colleagues from other websites coming in to provide their predictions. Until then, though, enjoy!
TNA World Heavyweight Championship
A.J. Styles vs. Kurt Angle
– Since the stipulation in this match is that it is Kurt Angle’s last World Heavyweight Championship match against A.J. Styles for 2010, I can’t imagine that he’s not going to win the title. However, with all of the praise being heaped on A.J. Styles these days, I think he’s got a great shot to win this match. Both of these men are prominently featured on next month’s Against All Odds poster, so that doesn’t help. Well, since I’m a gigantic A.J. Styles fan (you can call me a mark for A.J. Styles), my prediction is in his favor.
Final Prediction: A.J. Styles
TNA World Tag Team Championship
The British Invasion vs. Matt Morgan & Hernandez
– I’m also a huge fan (i.e. mark) for Matt Morgan. Here’s the thing with this match for me – I don’t think that The British Invasion has been able to get over with the crowd in terms of being the World Tag Team Champions. Sure, they’ve gotten over as bad guys. But have they gotten over as championship-caliber bad guys? I don’t think so. I’m going to suggest that Matt Morgan and Hernandez win this match and eventually lose the titles to Team 3D or The Nasty Boys.
Final Prediction: Matt Morgan & Hernandez
TNA Knockouts Championship
2 out of 3 Falls Match
ODB vs. Tara
– Like most TNA fans, I was surprised that ODB won the title on the live 1/4 edition of iMPACT! That said, I think that she’s going to retain the Knockouts Championship. Right now, she has more character than Tara (though Tara is coming on quick with her own growing TNA fan base). Eventually, I see a veteran like Tara leading the Knockouts division for a long period of time.
Final Prediction: ODB
TNA X-Division Championship
The Amazing Red vs. An Opponent To Be Announced
– This is ridiculous. How does TNA not have an opponent announced for, arguably, its second most prestigious title? As if that’s not bad enough, I’m pretty confident that if this yet-to-be named opponent is Jeff Hardy, Shannon Moore, Sean Waltman, or Ken Anderson that The Amazing Red is going down. What a shame.
Final Prediction: Anyone but The (super-talented) Amazing Red
Kevin Nash & Scott Hall vs. Beer Money
– For some reason, I feel a disqualification finish. I’m not sure why, but I feel it coming on. I also feel a bunch of internet smarks ranting and raving about how this is not what they want to see, so I have to imagine that my gut is telling me we’re getting a Hall and Nash victory. If Hall and Nash win, then not only do I predict an absurd amount of internet outrage (mostly from people who don’t like TNA in the first place), but I predict that they will ultimately go over Hall and Nash when the feud is over.
Final Prediction: Kevin Nash & Scott Hall
Sean Morley vs. Daniels
– I don’t see Sean Morley winning this match, but I do see Daniels having to slow down his pace just a little bit in order to keep everything looking copacetic. I’m glad that Morley was hired by TNA. I think that he, and guys like Orlando Jordan, can have a long-term future in the promotion as opposed to guys like The Nasty Boys, Scott Hall, and Sean Waltman, who are clearly being brought in for a short period of time in order to put over the younger wrestlers.
Final Prediction: Daniels
D’Angelo Dinero vs. Desmond Wolfe
– This match, more than any other one on the card, has the potential to be a show stealer. Since D’Angelo Dinero beat Desmond Wolfe on the 1/4 iMPACT!, I have to pick Desmond Wolfe this time around.
Final Prediction: Desmond Wolfe
Bobby Lashley vs. Abyss
– With Bobby Lashley trying to figure out what he wants to do with his professional life, I can’t imagine that Bischoff and Hogan are going to let him get over TNA’s version of a crazed maniac. I think that I have to go with Abyss on this one.
Final Prediction: Abyss
The Major Acquisition
Anyone could be the major acquisition. The internet (including this website) has been suggesting that Ken Anderson is the surprise, especially now that Sid Eudy is being courted by the guys up north. However, when I hear the way that Hogan has been putting over this major acquisition, I have to imagine that it’s someone with a bigger name than Ken Anderson. But with TNA already in possession of the two biggest names in professional wrestling history in Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan, who else could live up to the hype? Bill Goldberg, Sid, The Rock, Steve Austin? My money is on Anderson.
Final Prediction: Ken Anderson
