Sunday January 10, 2010 TNA House Show Live Report at the O’Neill Center on the Western CT State University Campus
Staff started letting people in around 3:10pm. The cold weather was making people upset, so they were happy to finally be allowed inside. Everyone had to go through a metal detector. I’m all for security, but I felt like I was at LaGuardia airport going on a flight; it was ridiculous.
As soon as I get in, I see Don West at the merchandise table. West was hard-selling that Sting “Brown Paper Bag” special. It’s a great deal to purchase. My friend who I went to the event with bought it, but I got a better deal a couple months ago, so I passed. Also, Velvet Sky and Madison Rayne of the Beautiful People were signing your programs at the table for free, so I took advantage of that. They seemed really happy for everyone showing up. You could take pictures, but only of them. The 6-sided ring was present for the event. My friend and I took our seat and waited for the event to arrive.
I’d say the capacity of the event was around 70-75% full. The O’Neill Center is a huge gymnasium that they do use for College sports events, so it does hold a good amount of people. Some TNA guy; who I have seen before came into the ring around 3:55pm. He got the crowd rowdy and introduced the “TNA King of Twitter” JB Jeremy Borash. Jeremy basically says that TNA is happy to be here in Danbury, and he thanked everyone for coming. He sells the “loudest fans get backstage passes” deal, so people were really excited. He even says that there is a HUGE surprise at the end of the show. JB then introduces the first match:
1st Match is for the X-Division Championship: © Amazing Red vs. Homicide
Referee: Slick Johnson
Great pop for Amazing Red as he came to the ring. Homicide got some heat. When Slick Johnson holds up the belt, Homicide steals it and jumps on the turnbuckle. People boo. The match finally starts. Both wrestlers took some time before they locked up. Quick grapple; Irish whips. Homicide tried to steal the match early with 2-counts. Amazing Red missed an aerial dropkick. Homicide gets a 2-count. An inside package gets a 2-count. Red takes control of the match. Some clotheslines, slaps. Amazing Red hits a flying head-scissors. Red then hits the Red Eye for a 2-count. Red counters a Homicide punch with an enziguiri for a 2-count. Somehow, out of nowhere, Homicide hits a 187; staggers then gets a long 2-count. Everyone feels the match is almost over. Homicide Irish-whips Red, but Red counters and hits Code Red for the 3-count.
WINNER and still TNA X-Division Champ: Amazing Red def. Homicide in 6:10
JB then introduces Referee Earl Hebner. Earl flexes as “You Screwed Bret” chants fill the O’Neill Center. One guy said something extra as Earl pointed. Security took care of the problem. JB says that the 2nd match is a TNA Knockouts Tag Team match!
2nd Match: The Beautiful People vs. Taylor Wilde/Sarita
Referee: Earl Hebner
Beautiful People do their normal introduction. They tease a kiss. Everyone was hoping for that. Sarita/Wilde gets a good pop. Velvet Sky does a promo saying that I’m sure everyone loved the strip poker segments on Monday. She then calls everyone perverts. Rayne adds that we’re HOTT! She calls Sarita/Taylor Wilde losers for losing the Tag Team Belts, and that they should go on the “Biggest Loser” Sarita gets the mic and calls the Beautiful People Def Leppard groupies and she didn’t come from Mexico City to Connecticut to take any garbage. She then says something in Spanish. Velvet responds: “Hey, you can’t speak French here!” It was priceless. Beautiful people get punched and the match begins. “You screwed Bret” chants keep coming. At one point during the match, Rayne gets on mic again and said she “did not screw Bret!” I saw some good tags, moves. Taylor beat up on Velvet. Sarita wasn’t able to get a tag. Rayne did a good job controlling Taylor in their corner. She got some two-counts. After a few minutes, Sarita gets the hot tag and takes control. Rayne misses a clothesline and runs into Earl Hebner. Earl forces a nice long kiss. Sarita helps Taylor hit a standing moonsault for the win.
WINNER(s): Sarita/Taylor Wilde def. Beautiful People in 5:49
Earl wanted a kiss from Taylor Wilde after the match, but she did an evasive dodge to get out of the ring. JB passes out one backstage pass as he introduces the 3rd match:
3rd Match: Rhino vs. “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero (20 Minute Time-Limit)
Referee: Slick Johnson
Rhino gets some heat. I heard some fans cheering for him. The Pope comes in with some good pop. “ECW” chants come as soon as the Pope hits the ring. Rhino takes the mic. He calls everyone in Danbury idiots. He says that this is TNA; not ECW. Pope comes back: calls Rhino “Reno” and that he likes everyone in Danbury and they are “very much pimpin!” Great match. Pope took control early with some punches and kicks. Pope lands a leapfrog body guillotine to Rhino on the ropes. Rhino takes control after a hard slap. “Let’s Go Rhino/Let’s Go Pope!” chants arose. Rhino gets a few 2-counts after a snap suplex, slingshots Pope into the ropes. Rhino then uses the ground game with some submission moves. Rhino tries for a clothesline, but Pope counters with a scoop slam for a 2-count. Rhino counters with a scoop slam and setups Gore. Dinero counters the Gore and when he tries to setup the D’Angelo Dinero Express, Rhino hits the Gore for the pinfall.
WINNER: Rhino def. D’Angelo Dinero in 11:38
After the match, Rhino takes the mic from outside. He says if Hogan wants change, I’ll show him change. I’ll earn a spot on the TNA roster. He returns to the ring and tries to end Dinero. He misses; Pope throws Rhino in the turnbuckle. D’Angelo Dinero Express is engaged. Hebner and Johnson try to help Rhino as Pope sells injury leaving the ring. JB advertises Don’s Deals at the merchandise stand. He asked if the crowd saw Flair & Hardy at Impact. He said Hogan told him that a huge star will be at TNA Genesis, so please watch the PPV. He introduces the next match:
4th Match: Desmond Wolfe vs. Kurt Angle
Referee: Earl Hebner
Wolfe gets some big heat. JB ended up saying where both wrestlers are from, so he was asking the crowd to recognize that and act accordingly. Wolfe acknowledges the crowd. Angle comes into ring with a huge pop. “USA” chants fill the arena. Wolfe looks around the crowd as they lock up. This match had a lot of potential to be great, but it didn’t seem that way. We saw great mat wrestling by both wrestlers. Angle took the early lead with some belly-to-belly slams and arm lock submissions. Wolfe then takes control with his arm DDT. He throws Angle into the turnbuckle. He setups the Tower of London, but Angle easily counters. Angle hits the Angle Slam, but only gets a 2-count @ 5:05. The crowd asks for the straps to come off. Angle obliges and the crowd erupts. Angle goes for the Ankle lock. Wolfe looks to tap out, but counters it. A couple punches later, Angle counters with another Ankle lock. Angle locks it up and Desmond taps out.
WINNER: Kurt Angle def. Desmond Wolfe @ 6:23
JB says we will now have a 15-minute intermission. Don West comes in to hardsell the TNA merchandise again. Amazing Red takes time to sign programs. I ended up getting my program signed by Amazing Red. I told him that I’m happy he’s back and congrats on being X-Division Champ. He shook my hand and said “Thanks.”JB comes back at 5:16pm and says that the next few matches will be great. He introduces the next match:
5th Match: Kevin Nash/Eric Young of World Elite vs. Beer Money Inc.
JB was going to pass out some backstage passes, but Young/Nash ends up ripping them up. BMI gets into the ring. Rhoode does a quick promo saying that Beer Money Inc has finally arrived to Danbury, CT. Storm asks if there are any beer drinkers in the audience. Everyone yells. James Storm and Eric Young start the match. Young tags in Nash after about 30 seconds, but quickly tags back in Young. Nash says it’s not time yet. Storm starts the offense. He gets a 2-count on Eric with some elbows and a scoop slam. Young tags Nash in while Storm tags in Rhoode. Nash throws Rhoode into the turnbuckle. “Vintage Nash” with the high leg and knee strikes. Rhoode then counters and takes Nash down after a third clothesline. We then see some good tag-team action. Nash gets Storm in the turnbuckle now. As Nash is doing slaps and knee strikes to James, he says “I swear to God these hurt!” Rhoode gets the hot tag from Storm as Eric Young is in. Patent hot tag moves: elbows, clotheslines, and over the head slam. He then hits Eric with the spinebuster. Nash breaks the 2-count. Storm hits Nash with the enzuigiri. Double suplex on Young by BMI. Nash hits a chokeslam on Rhoode, but Storm interrupts the count. Nash gets superkicked by Storm and BMI hits the DWI on Eric Young for the win.
WINNER(s) Beer Money Inc. def Eric Young/Kevin Nash in 8:23.
JB asks the crowd if they are ready for the Main Event. I hear the loudest pop of the night so far. JB then introduces the
Special Guest Referee: “King of the Mountain: Founder of TNA” Jeff Jarrett. Both competitors come in. Daniels gets some heat, but not as much as I thought. Obviously TNA World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles get a HUGE pop.
Main Event is for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship: © Aj Styles vs. Daniels (60-Minute Time-limit)
Special Guest Referee: Jeff Jarrett
Beginning of match was intense. Styles looks intense with some slaps. I hear “I’ll take your head off!” Daniels takes control with a missed Irish-whip. After a 1-count, Daniels uses the headlock. Styles tries to get out of the hold, but Daniels won’t budge. Daniels even trips AJ from another Irish-whip into a headlock. Styles lands a dropkick on Daniels and gets a 2-count after a springboard crossbody. Daniels counters when Aj miscues on the turnbuckle; throws him outside, then lands the baseball slide. Daniels uses a tarantula-like sleeper hold on the ropes to a 4-count by Jarrett. Daniels argues with JJ. At this point, Daniels and JJ were going back and forth. In all honesty, Jeff was out of position all match. After two scoop slams, CD gets a 1-count. Daniels stands on AJ’s back to a 4-count by JJ. CD puts his finger on JJ. AJ takes over with a nice head-scissors. AJ gets a couple 2-counts: rollup, and an inside package. Daniels counters with a snap suplex. After this, Daniels ends up saying “Get out of my face Jeff!” AJ hits an enziguiri on Daniels Aj hits a turnbuckle flying elbow then a clothesline. AJ tries an inverted neckbreaker, but Daniels counters with a sit-down powerbomb. Again, Jarrett is out of position and CD gets a 2-count. AJ counters; hits a spinning leg kick, then Daniels counter, but out of nowhere, AJ hits the Pele. Styles tries for the Styles Clash, but Daniels gets to the ropes. CD ends up slapping Jarrett in the face. Jarrett misses the clothesline and hits AJ. BME on Aj for a 2-count. Daniels tries for the Angel’s Wings but Styles counters with the Styles clash for the pin.
WINNER and still TNA Heavyweight Champion (via pinfall): Aj Styles def. Daniels in 16:35
After the match, Styles does a nice promo. Basically, he thanked everyone for coming to CT. He said that he knows CT is known for other great competition (WWE), but we came into their turf and proved tonight that we’re better. He never named WWE by the way. The surprise was that you can get your picture taken with Styles and the belt. Some the TNA roster came out to sign programs and take photos: Earl Hebner, JB, Taylor Wilde/Sarita, the Beautiful People, Amazing Red, and Beer Money Inc. Jeff Jarrett signed programs as well. I’m not surprised of the guys that didn’t come out. I had a great time. TNA always does a great job with the fan experience.
