As noted, Impact did a 1.5, which was hours of 1.7, 1.4 and and 1.2.
We don’t have a Raw rating, but based on 5.6 million viewers, it should be in the range of 3.7 or a 3.8.
TNA was celebratory with the numbers. I had predicted a 1.1 and talking with people in the company, they thought I was high (not stoned, just high in the number).
It isn’t good that they dropped significantly each hour, but it’s not unexpected either. They did cost WWE a half-point in the ratings, perhaps more and their strong first hour carried over and hurt WWE.
There was a huge drop in the TNA ratings after the Hogan in-ring confrontation with Hall, Nash and Waltman, as if a lot of people were going to tune to Raw, but waited until the angle was completed to do so. In that sense, it was very smart getting Hogan out there just before 9 p.m., but these tricks and quarters are immaterial in the big picture, which is building the future. Impact has a buzz right now. There is no question it is the best thing for the U.S. business as a whole short-term for TNA to be live on Monday night.
With those numbers, it’s a lock we’ll see this again, and I expect it will end up being a full-time move. TNA can’t debut Hogan, Hardy and Flair all in the same night every week, but they did a lot of things right, including getting them on in the first hour.
They still did no promotion for show No. 2 on the 14th, nor even promoted that they are usually on Thursdays. They’ve done nothing for the PPV at all, although the idea of Hogan being pushed so hard on PPV at least first time out may still end up doing a lot better than they usually do. If they don’t do a lot better on PPV, there’s something major wrong. They left some stories open which was good, but when it came to setting up matches and getting people excited about them while they had their biggest audience, they didn’t do any of that, almost like building the future isn’t their business model.
And that’s why a lot of people viewed this show and weren’t nearly as positive about it.
