Too much of anything becomes a boring thing. We all fall into little pit traps and get really, and I mean REALLY into whatever it is we’re fixated on. Me personally, I have an obsessive personality, and if you personally knew me on any level you would probably be able to rattle off a handful or two of my obsessions. But since most of you clearly don’t, allow me to pull the curtain back a little on my mind. Just in the last six months alone, I’ve been honed in on gambling, the band Nirvana, World of Warcraft (yes, I fell victim to WoW), WJFK radio, writing a script for my future TV show, my job, and of course, wrestling articles.
Now, some of these things I’ve always been into – such as wrestling and gambling, and for good reason. I have always been a gambling man at heart, and really do well for myself playing online when I give myself time. And as for wrestling, well, I’ve been glued to the screen, for better or for worse, since The Attitude Era. I do understand critics when they ask me “how can you watch something predetermined?” But I accept wrestling for what it is and what it clearly will always be for the rest of the McMahon-Helmsley era: mindless entertainment. The thing is though, I’m not sure if there’s even room for wrestling articles anymore on my mantle of obsessions. It may be time to clean that sumbitch out!
Now don’t you worry, I’m not about to start crying about the depressing state of S.T.U.P.I.D.’s directionless product… that’s been done a million times over. And if you guys are anything like me, you probably also get tired of that same old RAW sucked/Smackdown kicked ass formulaic columns Al Gore’s interwebz have been churning out like hotcakes the last 4-6 months (redundant writing to me is even more boring than the redundant WWE). To be honest, despite the cyclical bookings the WWE has clearly not gotten over, I’m kind of happy with what’s been going on to the side of that! That beautiful black man MVP, Jack Swagger, Dolph Ziggler, and John Morrision have trumped all odds and made names for themselves as legit threats to heavyweight titles. CM Punk and Jeff Hardy have been putting together a program that, although it’s sometimes confusing regarding the message being sent, has given a fresh breath of air on Smackdown. Chris Jericho, the workhorse he is, has been better than ever not only bringing in the Big Show (a very underrated entertainer outside the ropes), but turning Edge babyface, something I thought I’d never see!
So as you can see, although I do acknowledge the lack of creativity in main event bookings, I still am finding very much silver lining in the proverbial bag of shit fans have been handed for months now. But then why can’t I write anything about said silver lining? Hell, those up-and-comers I rattled off in the last paragraph could easily account for a couple articles themselves couldn’t they? And what about the Hardy/Punk program or the Jericho/Big Show partnership? Arent’ those worth at least one article a piece? No… no they’re not.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying this because I’m too lazy to write for this site, because I’m not. But when the WWE can’t spot the goldmine they have directly under their nose with all those ripe stars ready to get into the mix, and S.T.U.P.I.D. continually puts on the same, tired show with the same butt-buddies of his in the main events over and over, I just can’t get motivated to write about anything. The last great article-worthy moment I can remember was Shaq pushing down Big Show… but was that really article-worthy? Or did I just think it was great because I saw it in person? Eh, we’ll never find out. It was probably going to turn into the wrestling-article-equivalent of Kazaam!
So if you’re not yet following what my point is folks, let me spell it out for you. This article is basically a well-disguised cover for the fact that I have a bad case of writer’s block. The thing is, I’m deflecting my shortcomings by saying I’ll never force out articles just because it’s been seven days and the WWE took a week-long steaming dump on its fans (again). So… ummm… I’m trying not to come off as a Diva here, but I’m only going to write when I damn well please! If the WWE can’t put out something worth writing about, it’s not worth it!
