According to one source close to Vince McMahon, the idea of doing a sale storyline, such as the sale of RAW to Donald Trump last week, has come up in creative meetings in WWE in the past.
Apparently the last time a sale idea was pitched was during the storyline that involved Vince McMahon in the exploding limo.
According to the source, the reason it wasn’t done then was apparent fear on the part of Vince McMahon that it might affect the WWE stock. He apparently thought it would cause confusion and become an issue for the company’s public relations staff.
Whether or not that concern was legitimate, the Donald Trump sale to RAW angle resulted in WWE stock dropping the following day on Tuesday. One stock market analyst apparently questioned whether the storyline mislead shareholders into thinking Trump actually purchased the RAW franchise.
As noted earlier today, the latest development in the Donald Trump/RAW storyline is a pre-RAW press conference where Trump promises a “big surprise”.
