TNA Slammiversary Preshow Report
June 21, 2009
By Joe, TNAStars.com
Jeremy Borash opens the show by hyping the King of the Mountain matches. He talks about how the “2nd Chance Match” between Shane Douglas and Christopher Daniels will open the show tonight. Borash gives the obligatory rundown of the entire card before we cut to a video package promo of the pay-per-view.
The audience looks to be about half-filled at the Palace at Auburn Hills, Michigan. The video quality is decent, though not incredibly high quality. That said, I’ve seen much worse online presentations than this and I’m pleased with the overall presentation. Take a look at the screenshot below (click to see a bigger, cleaner picture):
Brutus Magnus & Doug Williams w/Rob Terry (The British Invasion) vs. “Showtime” Eric Young & “The War Machine” Rhino
– Rudy Charles is your referee. Rhino gets a nice pop from the hometown crowd and is accompanied to the ring by some contest winners. Even got a “Rhino, Rhino,” chant going on. Some back and forth between the two teams until Eric Young refuses to tag Rhino out of the match. The British Invasion attacks while Eric Young walks to the back. On his way to the back, Young is stopped and yelled at by Jesse Neal from USS Cole. A big Rhino chant starts as the War Machine tries to gain some momentum, but he’s stopped short by Williams and Magnus. A “USA, USA” chant tries to start, but doesn’t get too far while Rhino punches out of a headlock and delivers a belly-to-belly to Magnus. While preparing to gore Magnus, Williams interrupted and Rhino goes down. Williams is in now and misses a big top rope move. Rhino tags in Jesse Neal and goes to town on the British Invasion while Don West complains about the rules not being followed.
Jesse Neal gets set-up for the British Invasion’s finishing move and goes down for the 1-2-3. Apparently, a guy who isn’t really in a match can end that match if he’s tagged in and pinned. Weird rules, huh?
WINNERS: Brutus Magnus & Doug Williams w/Rob Terry (The British Invasion)
Borash and Lauren give another rundown of the card before we flip to a video package of the mixed Monster’s Ball match. After the video package we get a quick shot of Borash talking to the crowd before another video package airs of the fued between Sting and Matt Morgan.
After the video package we have Lauren in the back interviewing Sting who says that he’s confident that he’ll win the match based off of his decades in the business. “Matt Morgan… It’s Showtime!”
Sting is followed up by a video package for the X-Division King of the Mountain Championship Match.
We’re back to Borash running around the ringside and runs into TNA President Dixie Carter talking to some fans. Ms. Carter wishes all of the fathers in the crowd a Happy Father’s Day and a special Happy Father’s Day shout out to her Dad. Borash repeats the Happy Father’s Day message to Bob Carter and we’re then treated to another video package for the fact that this TNA Slammiversary is the seventh one.
The next video package is a rundown of the entire card and the preshow comes to an end.
Overall, not a bad preshow. Too many video packages and not enough live content, but with a preshow, what do you expect?
We’re looking for live reports from those in attendance at the show tonight. If you are attending TNA Slammiversary, please send us a live report!
