Dana White would rather pretend the last two days never happened.
It all started on April 1st, as Sherdog.com’s Loreta Hunt wrote a negative article entitled Some Managers, Agents Lose Backstage Pass in which she discussed UFC’s new policy on the issue. (You can read the article here.)
Dana White, who’s not fond of Hunt, responded through a video blog (he’s been posting video entries to his blog for quite some time now), in which he used poor language, calling Hunt a “fucking bitch” as well as a “fucking moron.” He unfortunately made the bad mistake of going after the source for Loreta’s story and calling the source words such as “pussy,” “liar,” and worst of all, a “faggot.” (You can see Dana’s video blog at this link.)
Word got out to GLAAD, who requested that White and UFC need to apologize for the remarks right away, accusing the UFC head honcho for using an “anti-gay slur.” (You can read GLAAD’s reaction here.)
A few hours later, GLAAD through the same blog, announced that Dana White contacted them to say he’ll issue an apology on his blog as soon as possible. The apology came a bit later in the form of another video blog at UFC’s YouTube channel.
As a result of this controversial situation, Dana White’s public profile will be significantly reduced. He will no longer be posting video blogs, and he is also to cut greatly on dealing with media, and will also greatly reduce his public role with the company. The reality show that was planned based on his life and was scheduled to start filming will not be happening as of now as White has pulled out of it.
We want to hear your opinion on this situation! Feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of this post!
The Luce Cannon says
Dana White is a dimwit. He has managed to bring a company from the depths of turmoil and build a powerhouse along with other management. Nothing has changed however. He is extremely passionate but still seems to lack objectivity in his decision making. Any good manager would look at criticism not as a personal assault, but an opinion and review and possible building block for the future. Dana still seems to think that if you’re not in line with him, it’s appropriate to berate, attack and defend with all guns blazing.
Too bad. Hopefully he’ll finally learn.
