Thanks to Prowrestling.net reader Jagger for the following recap of Chris Jericho’s appearance on SiriusXM’s Bubba “The Love” Sponge show.
-Bubba and Jericho had a discussion about Steve Austin. Jericho said he respects Ausin for staying retired from actual matches. He said Austin couldn’t perform up to the level he wanted because of his neck injury. Jericho put over Austin getting a lot of acting work and his introduction to the HOF.
-Bubba brought up Christian being back and Jericho put him over as a guy with experience that the locker room needs. He said Christian went to TNA and saw how it was and came running back to the big leagues.
-Bubba brought up Undertaker at WrestleMania and Jericho said the match with Shawn Michaels is the moneymaker this year and that Shawn is Mr. WrestleMania due to the fact he usually has the best performance on the card. They discussed how even though Michaels isn’t all that big in size that he can still tell a story better than anybody. Chris brought up his feud with Shawn saying it was supposed to be only a month but he and Shawn made the fans care and joked that without caring its only two guys wrestling oiled up in their underwear and that you can see any Tuesday night at Bubba’s house.
-Randy “Macho Man” Savage’s name came up and Bubba said that Hulk Hogan had a lot of heat with Savage but credits him for knowing how to draw big money. Jericho said he never wrestled Savage because of WCW politics and how everyone was an ass at that company (Hogan, Eric Bischoff, etc.) but once WCW was over they were all great guys and said WCW brought out the worst in people. Bubba said Bischoff told him that one of his biggest three mistakes at WCW was how he handled Jericho, and Chris said he never hear that but was flattered.
-They discussed the recent Raw angle/beatdown Jericho had witth Ric Flair and Bubba said it went too far and Jericho said the blood gushing wasn’t expected but affective. Jericho said the legends angle is really working and he has real heat with the audience and that this angle iss over without any titles or anything being involved and that its because they made the fans care.
-Jericho said that it was originally supposed to be him vs. Micky Rourke at WrestleMania. It was going to be announced after the Oscars, but Rourke jumped the gun and announced it weeks earlier. He said Rourke’s handlers became upset and pulled him because they were worried about his Oscar chances and the match had to be changed, but Rourke will be there at Mania and involved.
-The film The Wrestler was discussed. Chris said it was very similar to the way he came up and even recently during his time away from WWE he went to an autograph signing in Deer Park, N.Y. with him, Abyss (TNA) and a few others. The signing only drew 15 people and Jericho how sad that is and demeaning to be a part of. He said the movie reminded him of that moment.
-Bubba said according to Hogan that he was offered The Wrestler film four times and that the film was about him, but Jericho didn’t see that.
-Bubba had a question from his 6 year old wondering about the Boogeyman. Jericho said he was let go but a great guy. He told a funny story about how the worms were the responsibility of Boogeyman and that he would spend most of the day trying to find worms when he would come to town.
-Bubba (who was a friend) brought up Andrew Martin’s passing and what a shame it was. They discussed the fact that Vince paid for his rehab and Chris put over Vince for doing things like that when talent isn’t on his roster and his responsibility. Jericho and Bubba agreed that its the individuals choices that causes these deaths and not Vince or the business fault. Bubba asked if locker room leaders like Taker, Hunter, Michaels, and Jericho ever talk to the newcomers about drugs and partying. Chris said the newer generation doesn’t need it and that they catch a lot of crap for being video game junkies on the road, but its much healthier than being out partying. He said the current drug testing is brutal and that the younger generation of wrestlers don’t seem to be going down the route that others have (drug, partying mistakes).
-They discussed the recent incident between Jericho and a group of fans that was all over the web. Bubba brought up that the charges were dropped against Jericho, but Jericho laughed that no charges were ever filed against him and that the “dropped charges” was against the fans and that he was never charged. He said that the group were treating him like the character instead of a real person and that one guy kicked his rental car, causing damages. Jericho called that guy’s girlfriend “a bitch that tried kicking me in the balls” to Bubba.
-They wrapped up with some personal talk about their families. Jericho plugged WrestleMania and promised to kick Micky Rourke’s ass. He kidded Bubba about the fact he still isn’t a “Howard Stern” and Bubba said “I’m a jobber compared to him and I am Howard’s bitch like you are Hogan’s bitch.” Jericho laughed and the interview ended.
