ECW on Sci-Fi review
February 17, 2009
Taped 2/16/09 in Spokane, Wash.
Aired on Sci-Fi Network
-Clips aired of Christian interrupting Jack Swagger’s promo last week and the match that followed.
-ECW Open.
-Todd Grisham and Matt Striker plugged the main event tag match for later tonight.
1- THE BOOGEYMAN vs. PAUL BURCHILL
Striker said Teddy Long made this match as punishment for Burchill’s Christian Bale-like rant on WWE.com. Katie Lea distracted Boogeyman to start and Burchill took advantage. Burchill hit a running double-knee in the corner on Boogey. Boogeyman ducked a clothesline and hit one of his one. After a hard whip into the buckle, Boogey splashed Burchill. After a bodyslam, Boogey walked over to the corner to fetch his worms, but Burchill rolled Boogeyman up for three.
WINNER: Burchill, at 1:44.
Boogey cornered Katie Lea after the match and had worms on the mind for her, but Burchill pulled Katie away and they headed backstage.
-Grisham and Striker narrated some stills of Swagger vs. Finlay from Sunday night’s No Way Out PPV.
-Next week, Christian faces Jack Swagger for the ECW Title. Huh, thought they’d save it for Wrestlemania. This will be two matches between the two already.

2- JOHN MORRISON vs. TOMMY DREAMER
Some chain wrestling from the two, and Dreamer hit an arm-drag and Russian leg-sweep. He clotheslined Morrison over the top rope and to the outside. Dreamer was going to fly onto Morrison, but Miz distracted him and Morrison pulled him off the apron arm-first and Dreamer landed on the ringside mats on his back. Ouch. Morrison delivered some punishment inside the ring. Dreamer came back with a suplex but Miz caused another distraction and Charles Robinson ejected him from ringside. Back body-drop on Morrison, followed by a bulldog. Morrison missed his springboard kick and Dreamer hit a unique pump-handle overhead suplex for two. Dreamer went to the top, but was crotched by Morrison. Morrison got shoved to the mat, but Dreamer missed a move off the second rope and Morrison capitalized with the Moonlight Drive for the win.
WINNER: Morrison, at 3:58. This is four in a row for Dreamer. He may not be in great shape, but he’s still serviceable in the ring.
-Backstage, Finlay and Hornswoggle were getting ready for the match tonight when Christian walked in. After Hornswoggle was ushered away, Christian asked Finlay if Horny would be a distraction. Fit assured him he wouldn’t.
[Commercial Break]
-A video aired hyping the return of Evan Bourne.
4- TYSON KIDD vs. CADEN MATHEWS
Kidd was seconded by Natalya. Mathews has previously done jobs on Sunday Night Heat and Smackdown and was in OVW for a time. Kidd worked in his kicks, but couldn’t pin Mathews. Kidd hit a legdrop on Mathews with Caden’s throat draped over the rope. Springboard elbowdrop sealed the “W” for Kidd.
WINNER: Kidd, at 1:34.
-Another plug for the main event tag match.
[Commercial Break]
-A Wrestlemania XIV video aired. The video equated the show with the beginnings of the Attitude Era.
-Tommy Dreamer was in his locker room sulking a bit when a towel was thrown on his shoulder- a Ricky O Rally towel. Ortiz said Dreamer was the first one to welcome him to ECW and tried to encourage Dreamer.
-Grisham and Striker segued into a discussion of the Hall-of-Fame, which led to the Funks video package.
-Mark Henry and Jack Swagger made their entrances for the main event, which is coming up next.
[Commercial Break]
4- MARK HENRY & JACK SWAGGER vs. CHRISTIAN & FINLAY
Henry powered Christian into the heel corner to start things. Christian came back with a punch that Henry did not take kindly to. Henry lifted Christian up over his head and he fell hard to the mat. Finlay tagged in and they did a double dropkick on Henry, who was on one knee. Finlay fought out of the heel corner after a tag to Swagger. Striker noted that Swagger has been a victim of “skullduggery” by Finlay and Christian. That man is the greatest, it’s official (even though I know he’s used that word before). Christian came in and took Henry down. Finlay was sent to the floor in all the action and when Christian turned around to tag, Finlay wasn’t there (after specifically telling Christian he would be during their backstage segment earlier). Christian didn’t look happy, but made a tag as the show cut to break.
[Commercial Break]
Finlay and Swagger were in there out of break. Finlay took a shot at Henry, perhaps unwisely, as that opened a door for Swagger to throw Finlay out of the ring for Henry to metaphorically feast on. Finlay got worked over for a period by Henry and Swagger. A long period. Crowd got behind Finlay as he came close to a tag, but Swagger had him in his control. Elbowdrop missed, opening the window for Finlay to make a tag, and he did. Christian rolled up Swagger after Jack mistakenly hit Henry. He only got two. Belly-to-belly suplex by Swagger for two as the match started to heat up. Reverse DDT by Captain Charisma, and he avoided Henry interference, then shrugged off Tony Atlas. That allowed Swagger time to recover, but Christian pushed him off the top rope and hit a diving headbutt for two, as Henry interfered. Hornswoggle grabbed Henry by the leg and while the ref took care of him, Finlay hit Henry with the shillelagh. Christian got out of a Blue Thunder Bomb and hit his finisher on Swagger to get the pin.
WINNER: Christian & Finlay, at 11:04. Well, two wins in a row probably means Christian isn’t winning next week. Solid enough match, though there was some downtime when Finlay was taking punishment.
