I know its been quite awhile since I’ve written, but I wanted to tell all of you guys that I am going in for surgery on my foot tomorrow, so I’ll have a lot more time over the next month or so to write as much as I want! Okay enough about me, let’s get right into the heart and soul of what makes this The Dog Pound.
This Sunday, the WWE gives us the 2009 Royal Rumble. Now, I’ve already stated a few of my predictions for who I think could win, and I think its safe to say there’s one guy I picked that might just do it. That guy…Randy Orton. He has been truly on fire over the past couple months, and his kick to the head of Mr. McMahon himself could truly solidify Orton has a big-time heel, again. Not to mention that he has been responsible for bringing together his “Legacy” who I think is the best collected group of talent I’ve seen in awhile.
Let’s face it, the WWE is pushing Orton hard. I believe they’re setting up a Cena vs. Orton match at Wrestlemania; which is the spot originally intended for Batista. I like this a lot because I feel Orton and Cena have amazing chemistry in the ring together and could put on one hell of a match. so, barring any unforseen injuries or accidents I’m picking Randy Orton to win the Rumble; and I’m setting up Cena vs. Orton at Wrestlemania.
If Orton were to win the Rumble however, where would this leave all the other high profile names in it this year? Guys like Triple H, Undertaker, Jericho, and even Rey Mysterio. See, in that list, only one of those men has never won the Rumble, and tat man is Chris Jericho. While nothing would please me more than to see Jericho winning and going on to main-event ‘mania, I’ll stick with Orton this year. You see I think, if played right, Chris Jericho could do something more, perhaps bigger than main event Wrestlemania.
I can’t take credit for all of this however, as the idea was brought to me by a loyal reader and good friend of mine. (Justin.) Being that Chris Jericho has greatly changed his character over the past year and has become the 2008 Superstar of the Year, what is one thing Jericho could strive to do, provided he doesn’t win the Rumble? Jericho could challenge the one man no one has ever beat at Wrestlemania…the Undertaker! That’s right, at the 25th anniversary of Wrestlemania, Chris Jericho could attempt to end the streak of the Deadman.
In terms of storyline purposes it works. Jericho won the 2008 Superstar of the Year award, but since then has felt disrespected and downright degraded by Stephanie McMahon. He constantly feels like he is being treated like a lesser star than he is, and to gain that respect back, he vows to do the one thing no one has ever been able to do. Saying that once he beats Undettaker, the world..no, the WWE Universe will have no choice but to admire him as the true legend he will become.
As far as the Undetaker side of it, its simple. He needs an opponent for the PPV and as far as my knowledge goes back I don’t believe Undertaker and Jericho have ever fought each other at a big time pay-per-view like Wrestlemania. Of course I’d say Undertaker wins to keep the streak alive, but it would be one killer match!
I’ll throw out some random thoughts before I go, about this past Monday’s Raw which I thought was very good. I liked the Mike Knox character when he was interviewed backstage. I was never to keen on his in-ring work, but I like where this character could be going.
Randy Orton owned Raw. First, his interaction with Stephanie backstage was amazing, then ending the show by punting Vince in the head, followed by the look of instant regret..classic.
The JBL/Michaels/Cena saga was also very well done. Makes you want to tune into the Rumble (which I’m ordering) to see what Michaels does. Well, that does it for now, until next time peeps.
