Gov. M. Jodi Rell has announced her appointment of Linda E. McMahon, CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, to the state board of education.
McMahon, 60, of Greenwich, has contributed to Rell’s political campaigns. She is the wife of flamboyant Stamford-based WWE spokesman Vince McMahon.
“Linda clearly understands the skills and education needed to succeed in business and the type of highly educated and skilled workforce that must be available to ensure that success.”
World Wrestling Entertainment has been criticized for not doing enough to protect its actor-wrestlers and/or discourage them from using steroids, and for encouraging generations of young cable TV-watching children to embrace violence and profanity.
Like her husband, Linda McMahon has entered the ring many times herself for WWE’s TV programs.
