World Heavyweight Championship: Champion Chris Jericho vs. John Cena
Events leading to this match: Due to neck surgery he underwent in September, John Cena has been out of action. This match marks his return to the ring. The title shot was announced by Shane McMahon at a time when Batista held the title. The night of that announcement, Chris Jericho regained the title from Batista in a Steel Cage Match.
WWE Championship Match: Champion Triple H vs. Vladimir Kozlov and potentially Jeff Hardy
Events leading to this match: Kozlov is undefeated in the WWE and will me making his PPV wrestling debut in this match. He earned this title shot by beating the Undertaker by DQ in a match where Vickie Guerrero promised him a title shot if he could beat the Dead Man. The contract signing between them was interrupted by Jeff Hardy. If Jeff beats Triple H on the next episode of SmackDown then he will be added to this title match.
Casket Match: Undertaker vs. Big Show
Rules of the match: The only way to win this match is to put your opponent in a coffin and shut the lid.
Events leading to this match: For months, the Undertaker has been feuding with SmackDown GM Vickie Guerrero. When it appeared that Undertaker was going to send her to hell, Big Show tuned on the Undertaker and has been Vickie’s bodyguard ever since. At No Mercy, Big Show beat the Undertaker by KO. At Cyber Sunday, the Undertaker evened the series by beating the Big Show in a Last Man Standing Match.
Traditional Survivor Series Match: Team Michaels vs. Team JBL
The Teams: Shawn Michaels, Cryme Tyme, Rey Mysterio, & The Great Khali vs. JBL, The Miz, John Morrison, MVP, & Kane
Rules of the match: The match starts off as a 5-on-5 tag team match. A wrestler can be eliminated from this match via pin fall, submission, count out, or disqualification. The match continues until all five members of a team are eliminated.
Events leading to this match: This match combines four feuds in all three WWE brands. The feud between JBL and Shawn started at Cyber Sunday when JBL clothes lined Shawn when he was a referee of the Batista vs. Chris Jericho match. Cryme Tyme and Morrison & The Miz have been feuding in cyberspace for a few months on each of their wwe.com shows. Kane and Rey have been feuding since Kane attacked and injured Rey in a non-televised parking lot attack in the spring. The feud between Khali and MVP started when Khali interrupted the MVP Lounge to do his Kiss Cam segment.
Traditional Survivor Series Match: Team Batista vs. Team Orton
The Teams: Batista, CM Punk, Kofi Kingston, R-Truth, and Matt Hardy vs. Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, William Regal, Mark Henry, and Shelton Benjamin
Events leading to this match: Just like the prior match, this match pits wrestlers from all three brands that are feuding with each other. The animosity between Orton and Batista goes back to 2004 when Orton was kicked out of Evolution. It was recently reignited when Orton tried to cost Batista his shot at the title when he interfered as a guest referee in Batista’s title match at Cyber Sunday, a match in which Batista won the title. ECW Champion Matt Hardy won the title in a Scramble Match at Unforgiven despite never pinning the champion at the time, Mark Henry. The World Tag Team Champions, CM Punk and Kofi Kingston won the titles from the team of Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase. In addition, Orton injured Punk prior to his World Championship title defense at Unforgiven an injury that forced Punk to be stripped of the title. US Champion Shelton Benjamin and R-Truth have been feuding over that title for the past few weeks. William Regal is not currently feuding with any of these men. He recently won the Intercontinental Championship from Santino Marella.
Traditional Survivor Series Match: RAW Divas vs. SmackDown Divas
The Teams: Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Kelly Kelly, Candice Michelle, & Jillian vs. Michelle McCool, Maria, Maryse, Victoria, & Natalya
Events leading to this match: This match pits five of the most successful Divas from each brand battling the top 5 Divas from the other brand. There has been almost no interaction between the opponents. However, each team is made of wrestlers that have some issues with each other.
