We reported a couple of days ago on this website that Elijah Burke was released by WWE in their latest series of cuts. Many have asked what the reasoning behind that move was and whatever happened to Burke who simply disappeared from WWE television months ago.
From what several people are reporting, Burke was simply the victim of not having any supporters backstage when the time for cuts came. He initially started out on SmackDown! under Court Bauer as a project coming in, and was then moved to ECW by the request of Paul Heyman who liked him. For most of 2007, David Lagana — the head ECW writer at the time — gave him a pretty solid push that also featured the New Breed leadership role. Since then, however, things haven’t worked out too well as Bauer quit the company, Paul Heyman was let go, and then Lagana was fired. As a result, Burke was left with no supporters in upper management, although one must wonder how Creative had nothing for an entertainer and decent worker like him.
