Below is a recap of what happened last night at the TNA show @ Citizens Business Bank Arena:
Show was poorly attended with maybe 1,200 paid attendance. All floor seats sold out but only a handful of lower level seats were sold….
Jeremy Borash comes out to the ring to kick off the show, announcing that this is the first time TNA has performed in California (which receives a loud pop).
Match #1: Hiroshi Tanahashi b. Sonjay Dutt and Consequences Creed in a 3-way X-division match. Tanahashi lands the moonsault on Dutt for the pin.
Match #2: Homicide & Hernandez (LAX) b. Curry Man & Super Eric. Lots of back and forth action throughout. Hernandez lands a very long delayed suplex on Super Eric to the delight of the crowd. LAX hit their double team move on Curry Man for the pin.
Match #3: TNA Knockout’s Champion Awesome Kong (w/ Raiesha Saeed) b. Roxxi in a Non-Title Knockouts Match. Nothing spectacular here… Roxxi gets in some offense to avoid looking completely weak but in the end, Kong’s Implant Buster gets the win.
Match #4: “The Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe b. “The Instant Classic” Christian Cage. Very close match with both superstars hitting their moves and finishers. Joe gets the cover via the Muscle Buster on Cage.
***INTERMISSION***
JB welcomes us back from the break and gets the crowd pumped by teasing a possible return to CA for a potential PPV show (who knows?) and that parts of tonight will be recorded and posted on their website on Saturday.
Match #5: TNA Tag Team Champions Beer Money Inc. b. Team 3D (Non-title)
Before the match begins, Bubba Ray cuts a promo on Beer Money saying how appropriate they dressed up for Halloween as the guys from Brokeback Mountain (which gets a pop from the crowd and a Brokeback Mountain chant going). Some interference by Jackie behind the referee’s back plus some ongoing remarks/chants about Jackie made this match all the more entertaining to watch! Storm gets the cover and the win after Jackie prevents D-von from saving his partner.
Match #6: “The Phenomenal One” AJ Styles b. Kurt Angle
Solid wrestling from both Angle and Styles in similar fashion to the Joe/Cage match earlier that night. Match ends with Angle attempting the Olympic Slam only for Styles to reverse out of each time then hitting the Styles Clash out of nowhere. Crowd was divided over Styles and Angle with “Lets go Angle!” chants met with “Lets go Styles!” chants in response.
After the match, Angle grabs the mic from JB and tells the crowd how he came to TNA to wrestle, who he believes is, one of the greatest wrestlers in the business today and that’s AJ Styles! Angle thanks the crowd for coming out and spending their hard earned money to come out and see them perform tonight and to tell their friends to come out and see TNA wrestling live in person.
JB as well as the wrestlers who performed tonight come out from backstage to the ringside area and sign autographs and take pictures with the fans for about 45 minutes. Photo ops with Kurt Angle inside the ring were available for $20. After the photo shoot, Angle signed a few more autographs before leaving the ringside area as JB wishes everyone a good night!
**Bonus**
I had the chance to talk for a moment with Consequences Creed and he has completed his Bachelors Degree this past May and is looking towards working on a Masters Degree in Childrens Education. Thought I’d pass it along!
