What? No WWE pay per view this weekend? You mean I don’t have predictions to post? Of course not, I have two weeks before the very next one, Cyber Sunday. I’m happy about this because I get to write about last night’s Smackdown. This was another good Smackdown with a few not so good parts. And another match was added to Cyber Sunday, but we didn’t find out from watching Smackdown. WWE put up the new WWE title match last night. So let me start with that.
Okay for those of you who don’t mind texting and paying .99 cents you now can vote for Triple H’s opponent. Your choices are Jeff Hardy, Kozlov OR Hardy and Kozlov making it a triple threat match. As I said on Tuesday, I have no intention of spending money to vote, not when the voting was always an option on WWE.com. But if I was going to vote you know my vote would go to Jeff Hardy so we would get another Hardy vs. Triple H rematch. And I honestly believe that’s what the outcome will be. I will be very very surprised if Kozlov gets in there. Okay so we know about this match and now let me get into Smackdown.
I was very surprised that Smackdown opened with the Taker/Show recap from No Mercy. And then with Big Show and Vickie. To me this would be the last feud I would put the focus on. I would have figured that Hardy/Triple H and the WWE title would have been what Smackdown should have centered around but Taker and Show got the nod. Again Big Show and Vickie just don’t cut it for me. In fact I couldn’t stand Vickie last night and I’m one of her biggest fans. Not only was her promo bland, loud and useless, but also I knew two weeks ago that she would return with her neck brace and wheel chair. This is when Edge’s return means more now than ever before. Vicki and Big Show just don’t click and I would rather have Vickie off than have her character continue to come off the way it has since she and Big Show joined forces.
Nothing during this segment appealed to me. Also throughout Big Show’s promo you could see Chavo could have cared less about Big Show and that’s because last week Show put Chavo in a match against Mark Henry and Khali. I was waiting for JR and Tazz to mention why Chavo looked so pissed but I don’t believe they mentioned one thing about the hell Chavo went through thanks to Big Show. Now I thought it was cool that Triple H didn’t get in there while Big Show was talking about his up coming title match with the champion. Instead Kozlov got in there and I was okay with that, but little did I know that this was just one of MANY Kozlov appearances for the night. So the Kozlov appearance was okay but the rest of the opener was just bad.
The women’s match with Brie Bella vs. Natalya was good, and I got a kick out of Victoria going under the ring to catch Brie in the act, only to have a shocked look on her face when Hornswoggle came out. Victoria not only has it in the ring but out of the ring she also comes through so well. I would love to see this angle finally get to the part where Brie’s twin gets caught or shows up and we are done seeing the heel diva’s look like idiots. Okay now I have never really said much about R. Truth since he started wrestling on Smackdown so why not let you know what I think about him now. As many of you know I was very happy with his vignettes and now that he’s on Smackdown I am also quite happy with the job he’s been doing. Now I will admit I have absolutely NO idea what the hell Truth is rapping about but I definitely get yell out What’s Up, in fact I catch myself humming the tune and yelling What’s Up a lot. Getting old is so pathetic. Anyway I love it that he comes in the crowd while rapping I think that really adds to his character and I have been thrilled with his feud with Shelton Benjamin. I loved their match last night, I thought it was solid and I would really like to see these two have a nice lengthy pay per view match. These two gel very well together and R. Truth is getting an A+ from me so far.
Jeff Hardy and Triple H’s backstage segment was short yet very good. I thought Jeff came off so well complimenting Hunter for the match that they had on Sunday and leave as Hunter’s pal of only to come back and make a crack that Hunter probably wouldn’t win against the Big Show but whomever wins Jeff wanted to challenge the winner. As I said this was short yet it came off very well and Hardy looked damn good interacting with Triple H. And speaking of Jeff Hardy his match against MVP was awesome. MVP and Hardy have given us solid matches every time they have wrestled and the streak continued last night. And speaking of streaks MVP’s loss continued as well. They say he’s in the doghouse and I guess that’s true because it’s been a while since he won a match. Hopefully his jobbing days will stop very soon. Wait it’s the second appearance of the night from Kozlov. He got the crowd going by coming out and taking Hardy out. And Kozlov wasn’t done there was more to come.
The Carlito and Primo Colon and Jesse and Festus vs. Zack Ryder, Curt Hawkins, Kenny Dykstra, and Ryan Braddock wasn’t bad but it was over too fast for me. But with that said it’s nice to see Ryder and Hawkins on the show at least and this Ryan Braddock I would like to see more of. He seems to know his stuff and I say let him work in more matches, or put him on ECW and give him a regular spot. While I hope that we are not going to see a new couple, Maria and Festus, I have to give it to Maria for her facials. Watching her react to Festus staring at her was a riot. I am SO not into the Jackass crew having a main angle or any angle for that matter on a WWE show, bur I like watching Khali smile. I have said for a long time this guy should play a face and this smiling side of him with the kiss kam is kind of fun to watch. I wasn’t into it on Raw, but last night Khali was enjoyable.
And I might not be a Big Show fan, which means I wasn’t looking forward to his match against Hunter, but you know what? It turned out to be a good match. It’s not that I don’t like Show, but I have never been able to get into his character. And right now the Big Show against Taker is a character that I just don’t care for. But he got a lot of offense on Hunter and Hunter sold well and even though I never thought this two worked well together they did last night. I was quite pleased with this match. The ending was weird yet I would say somewhat exciting with Undertaker showing up and brawling with Big Show out of the arena, and oh yeah the final Kozlov appearance happened when he came out and went after Triple H. Once Hunter was down it was Jeff Hardy to the rescue and Kozlov walked away. And just when we thought that Hunter and Hardy were tight, Jeff gave Hunter another Twist of Fate to end the show. I absolutely loved seeing Hardy do that and Smackdown ending with Hardy and Kozlov staring at each other.
This was a good show and we get Jeff Hardy vs. Kozlov next week and honestly I am expecting a very good match. So really with the exception of the main storyline, Vickie, Big Show and Taker playing out weak, hey I won’t even put Taker in that category, it’s Vickie and Big Show that aren’t making this hot, but anyway other than that angle the show was entertaining. I wanted to talk a little bit about ECW but as you can see Smackdown took up a lot of room. I will say that I am enjoying ECW very much with some of their young talent and I look forward to not only Raw but also ECW on Tuesday. Okay if you get a chance give me a listen on http://www.mywcwp.com/. Click on podcasts and then Over the Ropes. I am on around 9:15 central time tonight with Nick and Max. It’s a blast being with them and I hope you will check it out.
