Fox Searchlight — the distribution company that won the bidding war to land Mickey Rourke’s pro wrestling movie “The Wrestler” — announced a release date of December 19. The word going around the industry is that this will be Rourke’s “comeback role” and that critics are certain he will be nominated for an Oscar.
I haven’t seen the movie, but it won several huge industry awards such as Film of the Year at the Venice Awards in Italy, which is a huge deal. Every critic has pointed out that Mickey Rourke did a hell of a job with the role, thus they’re sure he has secured an Oscar nomination.
