Earlier today, Yahoo.com announced that the 10/11 Affliction PPV show has been canceled. Several sites are reporting that the Thomas & Mack Center was still selling tickets later in the day. Fighters were being told that the show is simply being moved to another date, hence was postponed. PPV providers were told the show is canceled. Word from the Nevada State Athletic Commission is that the event was moved to a future date in January of 2009, and would take place in Anaheim, California, at the Honda Center (former Anaheim Pond). The event has been removed from the promotion’s web site.
The show was to be headlined by Andrei Arlovski vs. Josh Barnett, with the winner getting a title match with Fedor Emelianenko. Rumors have been circulating that Affliction was attempting to find a good public reason for an abrupt cancellation, since live ticket sales were pretty bad. It’s believed the company has lost in the range of $3 – $4.5 million.
