Former WCW star Norman Smiley recently signed a deal with WWE, and several sources are saying that he started with the company today. He will be working as a trainer in WWE’s Florida developmental territory.
Smiley, the first-ever WCW Hardcore Champion, helped popularize the style in WCW. He also had a brief stint with TNA a couple of years ago, which included teaming up with Shark Boy. He’s been around on the independent circuit as well as in Mexico, but chose the much more secure deal with WWE.
Dave T says
what the hell… He was one of WCW many overpaid Jobbers…
Joe says
I always thought Smiley was mediocre at best. What was funny to me was that he was made famous because he did the “smack that ass” motion on WCW Worldwide and no one in WCW knew why the fans were going crazy for it. The look of a weird British (he’s British, right?) wrestler doing that motion was a riot.
Dave T says
he was British. He was a good wrestler. He came to WCW when the company was ran by Russo and Ferrera.

You don’t need to be a World Champion class wrestler in order to help train people, just like with any other sport. Smiley was a very good worker who came to WCW and because it’s WCW if you’re a good worker, you’ll probably be embarrassed, jobbed out, and not allowed to work. That’s WCW for ya!
