This is it, the biggest event of the summer, and for the most part the Summer Slam card is weak at best. But it took one wrestler to make me decide to keep my order and get Summer Slam. The main title matches having nothing going for them, but it’s the one gimmick match that’s going to make this pay per view worth seeing and with that let me share my predictions with you. I’ll tell you this card is a little tough when it comes to picking the winners, but I’m hoping to at least break even, hell if I do I’ll be one lucky woman.
Edge vs. Undertaker (Hell in a Cell Match)
Friday night Edge outdid himself; he was absolutely outstanding terrifying Vickie. This guy has done so much for Smackdown and for his feud with Taker. I say that because we haven’t seen Taker at all, yet Edge has managed to build this HIAC match up so well that yes I am ordering the show because not only because Edge been an excellent salesman when it comes to putting so much heat on tonight’s match, but I can’t wait to see if Edge is going to lose it totally tonight. No matter how Edge behaves this is going to be one hell of a cell match. I expect Taker and Edge to top that fantastic TLC match they had at One Night Stand. This baby is going to be a MUST see match. And there is no way this will not rock the house and be the match of the night. I’m going with Taker for the win, however I would love to see Edge walk out with the victory and have these two continue at least for one more pay per view.
Winner: Undertaker
WWE Champion Triple H vs. The Great Khali
One of the major sites today is thinking that tonight’s match is only the beginning. They believe this will end in a NO DQ and Khali vs. Hunter will continue until Survivor Series. Well you know that is just something I hope isn’t true. I want this to end tonight, and I would love to see Triple H move on to a very worthy opponent. I’m going with Hunter for the win, and if there’s a God it will end tonight with the big man getting a pedigree from Hunter. I expect very little from this match, it’s a match that I wish was never booked and I think it’s safe to say this WILL not be the match of the night, not even close to match of the night.
Winner: Triple H
World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk vs. JBL
Well I’m going to Raw tomorrow night, and of course here in Chicago Punk is the hometown boy and I would love to think that alone will be reason enough to give Punk the win. And if Raw was playing in Atlanta the next night I would still go with Punk to beat JBL. JBL is the last guy I want to see becoming the new World Champion. I still feel Punk hasn’t been used the way he should be and it’s way too early to take this belt off of him. I don’t expect this to be a great one either, and I have a feeling that CM is going to be doing most of the work and by that I mean he’s going to be taking the major bumps and selling like crazy.
Winner: CM Punk
ECW Champion Mark Henry vs. Matt Hardy
Did any of you ever think that I would praise ECW champion Mark Henry? He has really stepped up since he became the champ and along with Tony Atlas this has all worked out so very well. I’m not sure what if any chemistry Matt Hardy and Henry will have. But with Matt you have a hell of worker in that ring and Henry as I said has really come through so this might turn out to be a very entertaining match. I don’t see Henry losing tonight I think it’s going to take more than one pay per view for Hardy to get that title. So Mark Henry will remain ECW’s champion.
Winner: Mark Henry
John Cena vs. Batista
This match came way too soon for me. This should have been slowly built up and held off until Wrestlemania, but it’s a Summer Slam match and as much as I think this was all rushed, I will guarantee you two things. This crowd is going to be split and we are going to not only get anti Cena chants, but anti Batista chants, but more importantly these two guys are going to give their all and I think their showing in the ring is going to definitely be better than all the crap that we have gotten in the last two weeks with such a week build up. It’s a toss up who is going to win, because I could see it go either way. But you know what I think? I think this match will end in a no contest. And that ending will take these two right into a rematch at Unforgiven.
Winner: No Contest
MVP vs. Jeff Hardy
I just read that Hardy has some kind of elbow injury and had to have fluid drained. He was unable to make the house shows this weekend, so I’m wondering if he’ll be able to work tonight’s match. I’m sure he will but you know if the elbow is a problem then what kind of role could that injury play in the ring? I have to give it to MVP the man has come alive and his interviews have been awesome. Jeff and Shelton Benjamin have been giving us 5 star matches so if Jeff can perform like he as against Benjamin, and his elbow isn’t a major factor then look out this could be a beaut. I have to go with MVP for the win. I think MVP will win so that he can rub it in Hardy’s face that Hardy is a loser and then look out because Jeff will get even at Unforgiven.
Winner: MVP
Winners Take All Tag Team Match -Santino and Beth Phoenix vs. Kofi Kingston and Mickie
Okay first I was going to go with Santino ending up with the women’s tile, and Beth Phoenix winning the IC title, but I’m starting to re-think that idea and I’m hoping that Kofi Kingston and Mickie retain. I have a feeling this match is going to be all about humor with some decent wrestling mixed in. Now if Santino and Phoenix leave with the titles, it will not surprise me at all. But I think a loss for Marella and Beth Phoenix will just get them going even more, and I really prefer Mickie as the women’s champion and Phoenix chasing her for that title. Plus I also want to see Kingston hang on to that title just a little bit longer.
Winners: Kofi Kingston and Mickie James
Shawn Michaels announcement
HBK has been just awesome as the down and out WWE superstar. He couldn’t have looked or acted any worse than he did Monday night. I could feel for him just looking at his “damaged” eye. But this man is so not going to retire, well he just might tonight, but it’s going to be short lived. Because I say the following night Chris Jericho will show up and gloat and brag how he retired the icon, the show stopper Shawn Michaels. And just as he’s going on and on Shawn will come out and attack Y2J and it will be on for Unforgiven. Tonight’s segment with Michaels should be a hot one and I look forward to his appearance.
I want to thank you all for sending me your predictions and I will do my best to get to all of them before Summer Slam starts. Tuesday I’ll be back with my thoughts on being at Raw live. I’m looking forward to loudly cheering our hometown boy CM Punk and it is going to be so cool to see Batista, Jericho and even Cena there, plus hopefully HBK will show up and then my night will be complete. I will leave you with a request from one of my readers. He would like to know if anyone taped the Aug. 4th Raw from Knoxville, TN. He was there live but his grandmother forgot to tape the show for him. If any one would be able to send him a copy I know he would appreciate it very much. You can email him at rattyloveiam@yahoo.com.
