Well, first of all I want to apologize to my faithful readers, you have now waited 11 days for the latest “Pound.” Truth be told, I have TONS of topics and ideas that I want to write about, however I am in the middle of wrapping up my internship, and on top of my other job I have had very little time. Thanks for sticking with me though..to all my readers…you guys truly rock!
Okay okay enough with the sentimental stuff right? Let’s get down to business. Tomorrow night the WWE presents SummerSlam, one of their “big four” pay-per-views each year. While the WWE has done a fairly decent job in hyping this card I can’t help but feeling that something is missing.
Truth be told though, if you look at it from a simple perspective, the card this year has four big time main event matches. I’ll get into each one of those in a little bit, but let me now give you my predictions on the “biggest party of the summer.”
One match that does have my interest is the Winner(s) Take All Tag Team Match. See, I’m a bit confused because from my understanding it is whoever scores the pinfall for Beth and Santino, that person wins BOTH titles. Now, the way it is worded on the WWE website is that the TEAM wins the titles. Hmm?? Now either way I’m gonna go with my prediction here and say that Beth and Santino will find a way to win. If it does turn out that one person gets both titles, I’m sticking with my original choice in Beth Phoenix. Either way, it’ll be a fun match.
One match that I feel will be extremely good, but seemed to be rushed onto the card with no real purpose is MVP taking on Jeff Hardy. This is a shame too, I feel that Hardy and MVP have great chemistry for what they’ve done already; but the lack of a backstory hurts here. I’m going with MVP for the win here and I hope to see Jeff on the V.I.P. Lounge in the near future.
Let’s stick with a Hardy here. Sadly I don’t see Matt Hardy walking away with the ECW title tonight, its just to soon. Just like it was too soon when they took the U.S. title off of Hardy to begin with. Where is Shelton on the card anyway? I digress, it is simply too soon for the big man Mark Henry to drop the belt and I would be very shocked if he did. Against my wishes, Mark Henry keeps his title.
Before I get to four big main events, let’s not forget we have an announcement by Shawn Michaels. Will he be able to continue; or will the Heartbreak Kid be forced to retire…again? Either way this storyline has been very interesting and shows no signs of slowing down. Can you believe that this storyline technically got started right after Wrestlemania? You have to believe that somehow, some way, Chris Jericho will be getting involved and this is not the end of HBK.
Now, onto the big time! As much as I don’t want it to be, I know that CM Punk vs. JBL will be the first of the “big four” to take place. I will also stand by my pick that CM Punk WILL retain the title. As much as he’s been overshadowed by John Cena and Batista, fans have taken to him and it would be a tremendous mistake to give the title to JBL. CM Punk retains in what should be a decent match that won’t get the time it deserves.
Next up I think will be Triple H taking on the Great Khali with the WWE title on the line. This of course is so the show can end with a bigger bang! Either way, not much has been made of this match when you stop and think that it involves Triple H. I mean come on, the guy is the WWE Champion! HHH wins and retains the title.
The second to last match I think will be the first ever collision of John Cena and Batista. Rightfully so, I am not a huge fan of either of these guy (but I do respect them) and I feel that this fued has been shoved down our throats. I mean what was the point of having Cena and Batista take the tag titles for one week?? I know, it’s because they are the two top draws and needed gold to intensify their rivalry. How riveting.
In the end, I see either a double count-out for both men, or a DQ win for one, only if the other makes a heel turn. I will give them credit and say the match will be okay. The crowd will eat it up; and I expect more cheers for Cena this time around.
I would end the show with the return of the Undertaker. Having one of the big four ppv’s ending in a bloody brawl on Edge’s part is the way to go. Undertaker always has and always will have the fans, and the HITC match is his specialty. Send the fans home happy with the return of the deadman!
I’ll leave with this, a little prediction on my part. There’s been a lot of talk about the Randy Orton accident being a cover-up. I believe it is, and that we will see him make his return this Sunday. What’s more, I think he’ll return and interfere in the HHH/Khali match, thus returning on Smackdown! Just a little food for thought there.
Until next time..you know the email!
